Roles & Responsibilities
  • The successful chemistry engineer will be part of the materials and chemistry team, primarily responsible for delivering technical justifications for the chemistry E3S (Environment, Safety, Security, Safeguards) case.
  • The role necessitates close collaboration with other teams in the engineering directorate as part of Integrated Project Teams.
  • The materials and chemistry team provides support for the power plant's entire lifecycle, from conceptual design to decommissioning, including manufacturing and development engineering and supply chain.
  • Developed and issued technical justifications for the chemistry regime. Support Integrated Project Teams (IPTs) for system design and development engineering.
  • Own the plan to meet cost, quality, and schedule targets. Engage stakeholders internally and externally as needed.
  • Participate in diverse tasks within the materials and chemistry teams.
  • The ability to comprehend and apply basic chemistry principles to the development of technical strategies and the resolution of technical problems throughout the product life cycle, including interpretation of chemistry data and predicting chemical excursions, trends, and anomalies.
  • Consider the effect of chemical changes on product operability and safety.
  • We seek candidates with experience in nuclear or highly regulated industries, with a focus on pressurised water reactor (PWR) design, plant, and behaviour.
  • Environmental, Safety, Security, and Safeguarding (E3S) regulations and principles (including ALARP and BAT principles).
  • Capability to create studies, specifications, scopes, engineering schedules, design method statements, philosophies, and technical reports.
  • A proactive, positive attitude with the desire and ability to learn quickly, question conventional wisdom, and make a difference.
Required Skills (Technical Competency)
  • Qualified to the degree level or equivalent in an engineering discipline.
  • Professional recognition can be obtained through an appropriate professional body or by working towards it.
  • Experience working in the nuclear industry for at least five years.
