Acute Assessment and Short Stay Treatment Unit (AATU) - Female Only

We are seeking a compassionate, confident and motivated Charge Nurse to join our Adult Acute Mental Health Inpatient Service. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the lives of individuals experiencing acute mental health needs, while supporting the development and wellbeing of the ward team.

As a key member of the nursing leadership team, you will play a central role in ensuring the delivery of safe, therapeutic and person‑centred care. You will provide visible and supportive leadership on the ward, act as a clinical role model, and support junior colleagues to develop their skills and confidence.

Responsibilities

  • Value co‑production and actively involve service users and carers in care planning and service improvement.

In addition to managing the clinical aspects of being a Band 6 Charge Nurse, the post holder will take an active part in the assessment, treatment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for service users in collaboration with inpatient multi‑disciplinary services. Liaising with colleagues and carers, ensuring they are fully aware of all aspects of a service users care and treatment.

You will have effective communication skills and be able to contribute towards patient recovery and wellbeing.

You will be able to identify individuals' care needs, plan, implement and evaluate care plans and risk assessments in collaboration with other teams and professionals. Maintain lines of communication with all departments and staff involved in a service users care, and report on progress and effectiveness to the appropriate MDT.

Participate in ward rounds, handovers, etc. Prepare reports as required and act as deputy manager to junior staff providing leadership and support.

Qualifications
  • RMN/RLDN or Dip/BSc (Hons) in Mental Health / Learning Disability Nursing ENB 998 / Preceptorship and Mentorship.
Experience
  • Post registration experience at Band 5.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Experience of working in other clinical settings (desirable).

  • Implementing quality improvement initiatives.
