Overview

Gazzard Day Unit is a day unit caring for patients living with HIV and also patients receiving outpatient chemotherapy (Haematology, Oncology, HIV and Colorectal). The post holder will be responsible for providing leadership and professional development for the nursing and support workers within the clinical area. They will provide professional advice and support to the whole multidisciplinary team in caring for patients. The post holder will also provide nursing leadership for implementation and evaluation of all education, training and development of staff. They will develop, implement and evaluate policies, guidelines and protocols for the management of patients attending the clinical area in conjunction with the specialist MDT teams. They will be responsible for the interpretation of and maintaining compliance with Trust policies.

Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and professional development for nursing and support workers within the clinical area.
  • Offer professional advice and support to the whole multidisciplinary team in caring for patients.
  • Provide nursing leadership for the implementation and evaluation of all education, training and development of staff.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate policies, guidelines and protocols for the management of patients attending the clinical area in conjunction with specialist MDT teams.
  • Interpret and maintain compliance with Trust policies.
  • Ensure all patients are provided with a safe and high quality standard of care; work with the Care Quality Commission requirements and the multidisciplinary team to maintain standards.
  • Develop and deliver high quality patient-centered care and work with the divisional team to reflect this in business objectives.
  • Work closely with the Centre for Professional Learning and Clinical Skills Teams to provide teaching/learning support in agreed areas of clinical expertise.
  • Manage all managerial duties (Recruitment, PDRs, Complaints, Datix, Budget responsibilities, project work) and maintain a clinical hands-on role, including being in charge of the unit, managing the HIV daycare and administering chemotherapy.
