About the Role

This is a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to provide essential security and caretaking services, ensuring our school site is safe, well‑maintained, and a fantastic environment for learning. We're looking for someone who can contribute to keeping our premises in excellent repair, minimise risks, and help us make cost‑effective use of materials and equipment. For an ambitious candidate, this could even be a developmental role leading into premises management!

Key Responsibilities
  • Site Maintenance: Operate heating, carry out frost precautions, conduct regular drain checks, and undertake first‑line repairs. You'll also liaise with the Leadership team on maintenance programmes and supervise contractors.
  • Security: Secure all buildings, set alarm systems, and conduct regular checks of the premises. You'll also be key in managing emergency procedures and ensuring the site is secure after school lettings.
  • Monitoring: Maintain procedures for site repair, cleanliness, and stock levels. This includes monitoring contractor performance, checking supplies, and managing regular maintenance and inspections.
  • Health and Safety: Ensure statutory inspections are completed, maintain a list of hazardous substances, review the asbestos management plan, and ensure Legionella risk assessment checks are carried out.
  • Portering: Provide a portering and furniture‑moving service, taking delivery of goods and assisting with school events.
  • Cleaning: Keep all outside hard areas clean, dispose of refuse, perform washroom checks, and monitor the standard of outsourced cleaning. You'll also undertake daily cleaning as per schedule.
What We’re Looking For
  • Education & Qualifications: Basic general education, with recognised training/qualifications in caretaking/DIY (e.g., C & G Certificate in Caretaking Maintenance, Electrical Testing Level 1) desirable. GCSE English or equivalent. Knowledge of site maintenance and good practices in building services (heating, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, etc.).
  • Skills & Abilities: Able to plan and prioritise tasks, work independently and as part of a team, adapt to various situations, and use initiative to solve problems. Good oral and written communication, computer literacy (Google applications), and essential basic DIY skills. Trained in PAT testing and asbestos, or willing to undertake training.
  • Experience: Experience in building maintenance work is essential, and experience in an educational setting is an advantage.
  • Other Requirements: Reliability is crucial as you'll be responsible for opening and locking the site daily. You must have the physical ability to carry out manual handling tasks and work at heights.
