Job Summary

Cowley Road Medical Practice, a busy GP Practice in Oxford, is looking for an enthusiastic Care Coordinator/Medical Receptionist to join our friendly and excellent Medical Administration team of eight people. The role is part‑time and fixed‑term, scheduled Monday to Friday, and involves working within a GP and Nursing team that serves a diverse community of around 12,000 patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Greet patients in person or by telephone and manage all reception activities.
  • Respond to queries from patients and clinicians, including telephone support and email follow‑up.
  • Perform general administrative tasks such as registering patients, processing prescriptions, booking appointments, and processing patient records.
  • Use the EMIS clinical system to enter data, scan and attach patient documentation, and code clinical entries.
  • Maintain a tidy, effective working area and ensure the computerised appointment system runs efficiently.
  • Attend weekly team meetings and contribute ideas to improve practice service delivery.
  • Provide holiday and sickness cover for the team as required.
  • Liaise with external agencies (hospitals, community services) and manage communication with other healthcare providers.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills
  • Minimum of five GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C or above, including English and Maths.
  • Demonstrable numeracy, literacy, and good communication skills.
  • Experience working in a public reception environment, preferably within a GP or primary care setting.
  • Prior experience with EMIS or similar clinical software is desirable.
  • Proficient IT skills – keyboard, mouse, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Excellent customer service orientation, flexibility, compassion, and a “can‑do” approach.
  • Ability to prioritise workload, work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of Data Protection and confidentiality procedures.
