Job description
Thorn Springs Care Assistant – Thorn, Dunstable, Bedfordshire

At HC-One, kindness is at the heart of everything we do. We’re looking for an enthusiastic and committed Care Assistant to join the team at Thorn Springs, where our focus is on delivering the highest quality service. You’ll take responsibility for the physical, emotional and social wellbeing of our residents, including assisting with personal care activities such as washing, dressing, personal hygiene and meals, and supporting general activities within the home. You’ll provide care that respects residents’ dignity and individuality, whether helping someone with limited mobility to use an aid, offering comfort to someone who is distressed, or providing compassionate end-of-life care. Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility; you should recognise signs of potential abuse, harm or neglect and know how to respond. All colleagues are required to attend safeguarding training appropriate to their role and undertake additional training as needed.

To provide the kindest possible care, HC-One supports five key qualities—what we call Kindness the HC-One Way:

  • We are curious – asking questions, seeking to understand.
  • We are compassionate – walking in the shoes of others.
  • We are creative – finding practical ways to make things happen.
  • We are courageous – supporting residents to live the life they choose.
  • We are dependable – people can always count on us.

We champion inclusivity, fostering a workplace where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to be themselves. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and prioritise inclusive working practices. We are also enhancing care through digital care planning; you’ll be supported if you’re comfortable with technology or open to learning.

We care about our colleagues and are committed to supporting your personal and professional development. We offer clear career pathways, continuous professional development, and opportunities to progress at regional and national levels. We provide full training and a range of benefits to support your well-being.

Please note: We are only able to consider applications from individuals who already have the full right to work in the UK. We cannot offer sponsorship or accept applications from those on a time-limited visa. Applications that do not meet this criterion will not be progressed.

Responsibilities
  • Take responsibility for the physical, emotional and social wellbeing of residents.
  • Assist with personal care activities (washing, dressing, personal hygiene and meals).
  • Support general activities within the home.
  • Ensure residents’ dignity and individuality are maintained.
  • Recognise safeguarding concerns and escalate as required; attend safeguarding training and undertake additional related training.
Benefits
  • Paid Enhanced DBS/PVG
  • Free uniform
  • Company pension scheme
  • 28 days annual leave inclusive of bank holidays
  • Life assurance cover
  • Learning and development and support to achieve qualifications
  • GP online service for you and your children under 16
  • Staff discounts at over 1600 high street partners
  • Employee Assistance Programme with 24/7 support
