Job description
Overview

We are looking for CARE ASSISTANTS to join our team. Greystone House is a friendly family run residential care home, providing care and support for 23 residents with enduring mental health problems. The following positions are available:

  • Position 1: 14 hours DAY SHIFT per week on a flexible working rota, this includes 2 x 7 hour shift each week, and will include weekdays and some weekends.
  • Position 2: 21 hours DAY SHIFT per week on a flexible working rota, this includes 3 x 7 hour shifts each week, and will include weekdays and some weekends.

The successful candidates must also be available to provide relief cover for holidays and sickness. Our shift pattern is as follows.

  • Morning shift – 7:30am to 2:30pm
  • Back shift – 2:30pm to 9:30pm
  • Night shift – 9:30pm to 7:30am

Experience is not essential as the key skills required to be a carer will come naturally to the right person — kindness, compassion, empathy and a desire to make a positive impact on the lives of the residents in our care. We provide on the job induction, complemented by a programme of flexible online and in house training, and offer a formal NVQ qualification to those who are interested.

Purpose of Position

To share with other staff in meeting the personal care needs of residents in a way that respects the dignity of the individual and promotes independence, and to help in the general day-to-day activities of the home. Care provided by care assistants is expected to include care that would reasonably be given by members of the service user’s own family and is not expected to include tasks that would normally be expected to be undertaken by a trained nurse.

Key Responsibilities
  • Providing support with personal care, including washing and dressing, and continence care
  • Administering medication
  • Spending time with residents to promote and share in activities and interests
  • Serving meals and refreshments, and providing support as required
  • Light domestic duties, including laundry
  • Following care plans to provide the highest possible standards of personalised care, and recording care provided.
