Job description
Cardiac Radiographer

We are looking for a motivated radiographer to join our multidisciplinary team to deliver care to patients undergoing cardiac and neuro-interventional procedures including joining the on-call rota for Primary PCI and Stroke Thrombectomy.

Main duties of the job

To provide a high-quality radiographic service for the purpose of diagnosis or research; to work within both local, national regulations and guidelines concerning ionising radiation and health and safety. To liaise with other members of the multidisciplinary team within the department; to provide education and training for staff, while encouraging teamwork and valuing each member of the team for their involvement and specialist expertise. To be responsible for the day-to-day organisation of that department in accordance with departmental protocols during the absence of the Superintendent radiographer

Job responsibilities
  • Undertakes specialist cardiac radiographic tasks including checking patient documentation and ensures radiographic examinations are carried out in accordance with the departmental protocols and clinical requests.
  • Prepares and undertakes specialised examinations with the Cardiologists the Neuro radiologist and other medical staff.
  • Participates in normal and out of hours and On Call, working in line with departmental agreements to support full-service delivery.
  • Cover the work of colleagues during periods of absence or peak workloads.
  • Assist in the implementation of all departmental information systems and ensure consistently accurate data collection and recording.
  • Ensures the correct use, and care of all equipment and reports defective equipment or potential hazards to the Radiographer manager. Comply with health and safety legislation, promoting high standards and acting immediately on hazards or unsafe practices in conjunction with other staff, as per Trust, Division, Departmental Health & Safety and Risk Management policies and procedures. Actively participate in departmental Quality Assurance programme to ensure that the highly technical equipment operates at maximum quality to minimise down time. To ensure best practice minimising radiation exposures as evaluated by dose reference levels. Ensures that QA is completed on the relevant equipment and after a lab service.
  • Acts in an appropriate and responsible way in all matters of Radiation Safety as specified in IRMER 2000 and IRR99 and to abide by the Local Rules. Reports any radiation hazard or potential hazard to the Radiation Protection Supervisor or Radiographer Manager, and if necessary, undertake any further action to ensure the safe operation of the faulty unit in the absence of the Radiographer Manager.
  • To co-ordinate cath lab lists where necessary; in order to facilitate routine and specialist investigations. To supervise all members of the cath lab team in the preparation of those sessions.
  • To use initiative and clinical judgement in the prioritising of workload.
  • To communicate appropriately with patients, relatives, and other members of staff.
  • Report to the Superintendent Radiographer any sickness or absence from work of any member of the cath lab team.
  • Safely utilise all resources to the maximum benefit to the service. Assist in the maintenance and rotation of stock being always aware of resource implications.
