Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated, enthusiastic individual to join the Cancer Services team as an MDT Co-Ordinator at Liverpool University Hospitals Foundation Trust. We offer agile working for 20% of the week and flexible start and finish times to support home life commitments. Cancer Services are committed to staff development, progression and health and wellbeing.

The post holder will work with clinical information staff; clinical teams across the Trust, Directorate staff and Support Services (for example, Radiology and Pathology). The role involves coordinating and supporting a multidisciplinary team to improve cancer patient pathways and data collection.

Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative coordination and support to a multidisciplinary team within cancer services.
  • Plan, coordinate and administer MDT meetings for cancer patients, including maintaining a list of patients to be discussed, case notes, film and results collection, and live minute taking/recording of data and outcomes.
  • Produce and maintain lists of all new cancer patients diagnosed in the Trust using a variety of sources and IT systems (e.g., IPM, CRIS, ICE) and liaise with Clinical/Non-Clinical staff within the Directorates.
  • Track patients through their pathway from referral to treatment and follow up on diagnostic testing; ensure appropriate staffing are aware of patients pathways; ensure tracking is kept up to date daily.
  • Monitor cancer waiting times and inform appropriate managers of any changes; identify potential breaches at MDT meetings.
  • Collate, process and develop routine data on a weekly basis to produce timely and accurate information on cancer waiting times and patient pathways for the Trust, Commissioners, Collaborative and the Department of Health.
  • Develop knowledge of cancer tumour sites and patients’ pathways; understand medical terminology/clinical coding and undertake related training as required.
  • Use knowledge and experience of cancer data to inform/advise colleagues regarding data collection; contribute to surveys and audits.
  • Support clinical teams in developing clinically useful, accurate and complete cancer datasets and implement/contribute to MDT operational policies.
  • Maintain data protection and ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act; respect equality and diversity in interactions with colleagues and patients.
  • Keep up to date with national and local issues relating to cancer and cancer data collection.
  • Be flexible in working hours and cover other MDT meetings/tracking for other areas as required.
Responsibilities – Additional Tasks
  • Produce and maintain information on patients’ pathways; ensure data quality and responsiveness to requests.
  • Work with information services and clinical areas to monitor waiting times and communicate changes to managers.
  • Ensure all case notes and relevant paperwork are available for MDT meetings; arrange referrals and share relevant information with other trusts/services as appropriate.
  • General clerical duties including filing, photocopying and collating documents.
  • Cover other cancer MDT meetings and tracking for other areas as required.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Previous healthcare experience is essential.
  • Advanced IT, administrative, secretarial and organisational skills with excellent communication abilities; capable of dealing with complex situations with service users and clinicians both by phone and in person.
  • Ability to work autonomously, respond quickly to requests, and use initiative.
  • Understanding of clinical terminology/medical coding related to cancer; willingness to undertake training as required.
