The role

As a Buyer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be part of an incredible, diverse, and inclusive team of talented professionals, bringing specialist knowledge, management skills, and technical expertise across a wide range of products, technologies, and collaborative solutions—supporting both our internal and external customers.

Day-to-day, you’ll be responsible for supporting procurement and contractual aspects of construction and capital investment projects. Additionally, you will:

  • Conduct supplier due diligence, support technical specification preparation, and manage post-tender processes to ensure compliance and high-quality standards
  • Prepare, issue and review ITTs / RFQ’s and RFI’s
  • Evaluate bids, conduct comparisons, and make recommendations, ensuring total cost of ownership is captured
  • Draft, review, approve, and negotiate contracts using the NEC4 suite of options, including contract amendments (Early Warnings and Compensation Events) and extensions

This role is full time, 36 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 3 days in the office/onsite and 2 days working from home.

Essential experience of the Buyer

  • Knowledge and practical application of project management principles
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage high volumes of information, coordinating key stakeholders to ensure timely and high-quality delivery
  • Strong understanding of contract terms and conditions, including the ability to manage flow-down requirements from customer contracts
  • Experience in leading and supporting supplier negotiations to achieve the most effective outcomes
  • Ability to safeguard Babcock’s commercial position throughout the contract lifecycle

Qualifications for the Buyer

  • Experience managing contract delivery in construction, engineering, capital procurement, or manufacturing sectors
  • MCIPS accreditation or a relevant degree
  • Demonstrated success in developing procurement strategies and leading complex procurement projects, underpinned by strong project management skills
