22.5 hours per week NJC Scale 4 Salary: £13.69 to £14.59 per hour (pro rata) Location: Telford & Wrekin Register Office - Wellington Hours: Monday to Wednesday (Office-Based)

Would you like to play a key role in supporting one of the most sensitive and important services within Telford & Wrekin Council?We are looking for a Business Support Officer to join our Registration, Ceremonies & Bereavement Services team, providing essential administrative support for burials, ceremonies, and some registration work.

This is an office-based role (not remote working) where you will help ensure the smooth delivery of statutory and discretionary services at significant life events.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Managing diaries for burials, ceremonies, and registration appointments.
  • Processing applications for exclusive rights of burial and producing grave deeds.
  • Liaising with funeral directors, celebrants, families, and other stakeholders.
  • Handling bookings, payments, and correspondence for ceremonies and burials.
  • Maintaining accurate statutory records and confidential information in line with GDPR.
  • Providing reception and telephone support, responding to public enquiries with empathy and professionalism.
  • Supporting the team with purchasing tasks, statutory returns, and general office administration.
What we’re looking for:
  • Previous experience in a busy office environment.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage sensitive situations with discretion and empathy.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (including Outlook for diary management).
  • Knowledge of financial systems (Agresso) and burial administration systems (PlotBox) desirable but not essential.
