The Marketing and Business Development (BD) function at White & Case is a global team of professionals dedicated to supporting the firm’s growth and reputation. Organised by practice, industry, and strategic client BD, the team covers all aspects of marketing and business development, including marketing communications, events, creative services, press relations, marketing technology, and a centralised team of coordinators and pitch specialists. We work collaboratively across the firm to deliver effective campaigns, build client relationships, and support our lawyers in winning new business.

As a Business Development Manager on our Global Clients & Industries team, you will be instrumental in driving revenue opportunities and enhancing the firm’s market presence. In this role, you will serve as the dedicated relationship manager for a portfolio of key and priority clients in our Private Capital Industry Group. You will also be a member of the Private Capital Industry Group business development team, leading and supporting on important initiatives for this large group.

You will work closely with Private Capital Industry Group leadership, key and priority client global relationship partners, related core teams, and business development colleagues around the world to develop and execute go-to-market strategies that align with business objectives and Firm strategy. You will also play a pivotal role in deepening and expanding client relationships with the firm’s most strategic clients and priority sectors.

Key Responsibilities Industry group support:
  • Proactively manage industry group initiatives, including internal meetings, events, submissions, financial analytics and client outreach programs.
  • Develop and execute go-to-market strategies in collaboration with senior leaders and business development colleagues, in alignment with the Firm’s strategy.
  • Enhance the visibility internally of the Firm's global industry expertise, working with Partners and Associates.
Client relationship management:
  • Proactively manage key institutional client relationships by supporting the global relationship partner and core team, coordinating regular internal meetings and communications, monitoring and reporting on financial analytics, and “connecting dots” to ensure that client service teams are well-coordinated and effectively positioned to meet client needs.
  • Act as central point of contact and resource on relationship internally and externally, within the client team primarily, and with the larger firm and other internal or external stakeholders (e.g., internal BD leadership, client outside counsel engagement team).
  • Maintain contact mapping and relationship history tracking.
  • Coordinate efforts across business services to support ongoing relationship efforts, through value-add services (e.g., pro bono, entertainment, trainings, etc.) and related cross-functional management.
  • Manage client secondment process (from creating the business case, to prepping the candidate, to checking in, to debriefing and following up on agreed action items).
  • Participate in and/or lead on significant proposals/panels as they relate to the clients this role is responsible for.
  • Manage client feedback opportunities as part of the firm client feedback program.
General:
  • Support special projects, initiatives, and ad hoc requests.
  • Oversee international flagship events, including targeting clients and coordinating local arrangements.
  • Provide credentials for pitches, proposals, and RFPs as needed.
  • Partner with Marketing Communications to deliver thought leadership that strengthens the firm's reputation and client engagement.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Minimum five years’ experience in marketing and business development within a professional services environment; prior law firm experience beneficial but not required
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject area
  • Proven problem-solver with ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Proactive, resilient, and highly organized; effective with peers and professionals at all levels
  • Experienced in business development, preferably in law firms or international organisations
  • Detail-oriented, with excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Self-motivated, pragmatic, and flexible; effective independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to take on additional tasks as needed
  • Proficient in MS Office; experience with iManage/document management systems is ideal
  • Strong oral and written communicator with a diplomatic approach
  • Energetic, positive outlook
  • Effective team player with team/project management experience
  • Skilled networker and advocate; builds strong internal and external relationships

Location and Reporting

This role is based in London, and reports into the Senior Manager, Business Development, Private Capital Industry Group, based in New York.

Our standard office hours are 09:30-18:00, with a current requirement for 3 days in the office per week.
