THE OPPORTUNITY

Leonardo offers a range of Apprenticeships from 2-4yrs. across a variety of STEM and business routes, offering paid training, coupled with on the job learning that enables you to gain practical skills, experience and knowledge that sets up the best start to your career. We offer salary of £21525 and fully support your academic learning through to qualifications, with salary increases as you progress.

We support helping you settle in to your new location ensuring you are familiar with the team and have a warm welcome from day 1. There is a member of our Apprentice team at each site, helping you progress, ensuring your study time is protected, enabling access to digital learning as well as opportunities to get involved with the local community and STEM projects, enhance many aspects of each programme.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to gain commercial experience supporting a variety of bids and long term contracts for key programmes, products and customers.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

The Leonardo Business Apprenticeship is structured around a programme of placements that will see you move around the business over a 3.5 year period designed to give you as much experience of and exposure to an international business environment as possible. This will help you identify areas that interest/excite you and also give you a wider understanding of how a global business operates.

For the first two years you will rotate through placements including Procurement, Commercial, Sales, Project Management, Finance and Human Resources. Working within our Integrated Project Teams, you will gain the skills and knowledge to deliver complex projects, utilising strong internal and external customer facing skills to support project execution and delivery within the Electronics line of business. In the third year of your programme you will move back into Procurement for your final placement.

You will also attend university on a day release basis to complete your Chartered Manager Apprenticeship (ST0272) which includes a BA (Hons) Business and Management degree. Through your work placements you will record learning activities and evidence to show your competency in set criteria and in your final placement you will complete a project which forms part of your degree.

During your apprenticeship, you will:

  • Grow your knowledge of an engineering business and what the roles of our business support colleagues are by being part of our Integrated Project Teams.
  • Develop key skills in a business support role, understanding key processes and technologies.
  • Support early careers activities - our apprentices have the opportunity to work as STEM ambassadors in schools, colleges and universities.
Requirements

Qualifications:

You must have (as a minimum) the following qualifications:

104 UCAS Points from A'Level or BTEC Extended Diploma in Business Related Subjects plus 5 GCSE grades 4-9 or grades A*-C or equivalent, to include Maths and English.

  • Holds an understanding of basic business finance.
  • Has an understanding of contract law and its application.
  • Has the ability to build effective and strong relationships with cross-functional colleagues, customers and suppliers.
  • Has Microsoft Office knowledge and application of Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Possesses excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Is proactive, tenacious, results driven.
  • Has a desire to learn and improve self.
