Budget Controller – Surveyor

Role Purpose

To be the front end of the service charge budget process, ensuring all steps are completed on time and accurate. The candidate will be responsible for providing expert guidance and support on all aspects of service charge budgeting, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and best practice across a portfolio of properties. This role will involve a deep understanding of relevant legislation, lease structures, and accounting principles, and will be crucial in ensuring the financial sustainability and operational efficiency of our managed properties.

  • Key Responsibilities

  • Govern and troubleshoot through the budget process

  • Facilitate the coordination of making supplier data available

  • Enforcing the use of PO’s and challenging ad hoc coding in budgets

  • Monitoring and chasing client approvals

  • Monitoring and chasing apportionment issues during budget period

  • Review and obtain approval of service charge budgets, alongside on-site facilities teams

  • Monitor the approval of service charge year end reconciliations in accordance with RICS guidelines / client instruction

  • Ensure SOPs are in place for all tasks, driving efficiency and consistency

  • Maintaining in-house database/spreadsheets/trackers

  • Ad hoc duties as and when they arise

Person Specification/Requirements

  • Preferably RICS qualified

  • Strong administrative skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Good organisational skills

  • Experience with relevant accounting software and workflow systems (e.g., Tramps, Yardi, K2, eMOS, etc.).

  • Good communication skills and experience in building relationships with key business stakeholders

  • Good problem-solving skills.

  • Good MS Office skills including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook

  • Task oriented and self-motivated, with ability to prioritise issues

  • Accurate and exceptional attention to detail

  • Build and maintain relationships with other parts of the wider CBRE service lines

  • Ability to prioritise and co-ordinate tasks efficiently ensuring all deadlines are met

  • Maintains a positive attitude towards routine tasks and workload
