Job description

We currently have a Fixed Term vacancy covering maternity leave for a forward thinking, dynamic and compassionate senior registered nurse. This role is working 18.75 hours per week.

Successful applicants will have excellent communication skills and be responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of personalised care plans, to ensure high quality care is given as well as provide a high standard of general nursing care to all patients, ensuring that they are treated with dignity and respect while promoting a safe environment.

Job responsibilities

Job Purpose

  • To perform as an autonomous practitioner, managing a specific clinical caseload in the expert assessment and treatment of patients with complex bladder and bowel continence dysfunction.
  • To practice advanced clinical reasoning skills to determine clinical diagnosis, prognosis and ongoing management and maintain records.
  • To provide clinical leadership in education, training and specialist policies and procedures for the organisation and the specialist service.
  • To be responsible for continuing the development of clinical practice and expertise within the specialist service, contributing to service development and the implementation of specific changes to clinical practice and service protocols, making a professional contribution to the work of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Line management and development of clinical staff within the specialist service.
  • To be involved with service evaluation, research and audit.

Dimensions

  • Managing an active caseload of patients with complex bladder and bowel continence dysfunction, in line with national and local guidance and pathways.
  • To provide management, clinical supervision and support skill development for junior members of clinical staff and students.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical

  • The assessment and management of a clinical caseload of complex bladder and bowel continence care patients, maintaining accurate clinical records and data required by the service.
  • To ensure a high standard of specialist of bladder and bowel clinal care for the patients under your management working to the standards required by your governing body.
  • To formulate individualised, evidence based, management plans, using advanced clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice.
  • To organise own time effectively with regard to clinical priorities.
  • To provide specialised advice, teaching and training to other members of the Primary and Secondary Care Team regarding bladder and bowel continence management.
  • To lead on training and supervision of less experienced staff and students.
  • To have the ability to gain valid informed consent and to identify through assessment patients who lack capacity and work within a legal framework with patients who lack the capacity to consent to treatment.
  • To work as a autonomous practitioner with supervision from the team manager and peers.
  • To provide spontaneous and planned advice, teaching and instruction to patients, carers and other professionals to promote understanding of specialist bladder and bowel continence treatment and management, to ensure a consistent approach to patient care.
  • To jointly lead on the development of bladder and bowel clinical policies and standard operating procedures for the service and or organisation. Assist with the implementation of national standards and guidance regarding bladder and bowel continence.
  • Within the scope of the service prescribe approved medication and appliances for patients with bladder and bowel continence problems.

Professional

  • Jointly lead with clinical decisions required to ensure efficient, cost-effective provision of the Home Delivery Service and prescription service.
  • Liaise with clinical service managers on issues relating to continence promotion, bladder and bowel continence management and service improvement.
  • To use information technology and participate in data collection and statistics.
  • To maintain clear, concise and timely records in line with the service policy.
  • Joint involvement with organisational audit where required.
  • Set up and chair professional meetings and forums.
  • Support and encourage reflective practice in bladder and bowel continence care, promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
  • To be jointly responsible for continuing professional development within the specialist service. Contributing to the maintenance of clinical competency and participating in professional networks. Attend relevant study days and internal /external training courses.
  • To be jointly responsible for the facilitation and promotions of a learning culture in the service, enabling other specialist practitioners to develop their skills.
  • To actively participate in training by attendance and presentation at team meetings and training sessions.
  • When appropriate plan, develop, implement, and evaluate educational programmes and training.
  • To contribute to the national professional development within bladder and bowel continence care through the appropriate Clinical Interest Groups (e.g.: RCN Continence Forum, ACP and the bladder and bowel community).
  • Participate in the recruitment and selection of clinical staff within the department.
  • Lead the induction, supervision, and individual performance management of clinical staff within the department
  • Undertake any other duties, which may reasonably be required in addition to, those attached, relating to your specific area.
  • To demonstrate a sound understanding of quality, safety and risk management and apply to the work situation.

Organisational

  • To support the clinical service manager in implementing targets and objectives to assist in the ongoing development of the Bladder and Bowel specialist service.
  • To participate in service evaluation and advise the clinical services manager on the service needs of the client population.
  • To be responsible for management duties as when delegated by the clinical service manager.
  • To liaise effectively with other professionals and agencies to enhance bladder and bowel continence care within Nottingham CityCare Partnership.
  • To manage day to day delivery of own caseload within the Bladder and Bowel specialist service including prioritisation of support staff duties. Also organising own diary and time management.
  • To always ensure the health and safety of staff and patients in accordance with PSIRF, Health and safety legislation and organisation policy and procedures.
  • To attend team meetings and other agency meetings as required.
  • To undertake any other duties which may be reasonably required.
