BIOMEDICAL SCIENTIST- PRIVATE CLINIC

CMB Recruitment is seeking a Biomedical Scientist to join a leading cutting edge private laboratory based in Belfast. Our client offers advanced biochemical, clinical, and diagnostic services to healthcare providers, research institutions and private clients. Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, this represents an excellent opportunity for an ambitious HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist to develop their career and earn a highly competitive salary. This is a permanent full-time role (37.5 hours per week, no overnight shiftwork).

THE ROLE

The successful candidate will:

  • Conduct biochemical analyses, developing and validating assays, and supporting research and clinical projects. The role involves both routine testing and investigative research, contributing to innovation in diagnostics and biotechnology.
  • Work closely with the Senior Laboratory Staff to provide successful operation of the analytical function.
  • Interpret, validate, and report results ensuring abnormal results are conveyed to the requesting clinician in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that all methods are performed to good laboratory practices (ISO 15189).
  • Calibrate laboratory equipment, ensuring compliance with SOPs and Health & Safety standards.
  • Perform all necessary quality control procedures to ensure the analytical integrity of the results produced, identifying and implementing first line remedial action in the event of QC failure.
  • Assist in troubleshooting technical problems and optimizing laboratory protocols.
  • Provide reports on laboratory performance to senior management/directors as requested/required.
  • Undertake method and laboratory instrument evaluation as directed by the Laboratory Manager in accordance with regulatory guidelines (e.g. ISO 15189).
  • Rotate between all areas within the Laboratory as directed by the Laboratory Manager.
  • Accurately record patient information and result data into laboratory IT systems as required.
  • Understand and use the Laboratory’s quality management system.
  • Participate in Audits as required.
  • Follow professional code of conduct, performance, and ethics (HCPC).
  • The post holder may be required to attend speciality training delivered by an external contractor as directed by the Laboratory Manager.
THE PERSON

Essential

  • BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related discipline.
  • HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist.
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in a laboratory environment, ideally within a clinical or private lab setting.
  • Strong knowledge of biochemical techniques and instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with UK laboratory regulatory standards (e.g., UKAS accreditation, ISO 15189).
  • Experience & Knowledge of COSHH.

Desirable

  • Experience with mass spectrometry, HPLC, or PCR-based techniques.
  • Experience of chromatographic techniques including HPLC, GC-FID and ICP-OES.
  • Experience of analytical method development and method validation.
  • MSc or PhD in a relevant field.
