A leading healthcare provider in Southampton is looking for an experienced HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist with a strong background in Microbiology. The role includes 24/7 shift work and responsibilities involve rotating through laboratory sections and training new staff. The Microbiology Department at UHS is advertising an opportunity for an HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist with a strong background primarily in Microbiology (Bacteriology, Mycology, Parasitology) with possible opportunity to rotate into Molecular once initial competency is gained.
Candidates must already hold HCPC registration, or are due to become registered in the next 3 months. The department processes over 1,000,000 specimens per year. We employ almost 100 staff and provide a comprehensive 7 day service covering bacteriology, mycobacteriology, mycology, virology, serology and parasitology and molecular testing.
We are IBMS accredited for pre-registration training and specialist training in medical microbiology, virology and infectious science.

The role involves 24/7 working on a shift pattern, including earlies, cores, lates, and night shifts. Candidates must be able to work all these shifts. Weekends and bank holidays are also worked on a rotation.
Teamwork, CPD, and good communication are key skills for this role. You would rotate through sections of the laboratory and be responsible for training others when you have gained competencies in those sections.
