Job Details

Bereavement Officer (RP0021) Starting salary £34,431 pa with progression to £37,464 pa through annual increments subject to satisfactory service (inclusive of outer fringe allowance). 37 hours per week (5 days out of 7, including some Saturdays on a rota). Permanent contract.

Responsibilities
  • Chapel Duties – Welcoming families and Funeral Directors, ensuring services are conducted with dignity and run seamlessly.
  • Cremation – Undertaking full training and working towards an accredited FBCA qualification, participating in the complete cremation process and the respectful management of ashes.
  • Administration – Managing bookings for burials and cremations, verifying documentation, maintaining accurate records, and supporting families with enquiries.
  • Contract Management – Overseeing contractors to ensure cemeteries are maintained to our service standards, including grounds care, site cleaning, and grave preparation.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Based at Oak Hill Lawn Cemetery & Crematorium five days per week (including some Saturdays on a rota basis), with travel required to cemeteries and other council offices and sites across the borough.
  • UK full driving licence.
  • Ability to converse with ease with members of the public and to provide advice in accurate spoken English.
