Job description

Banking Litigation Associate / Senior Associate Location: Newcastle upon Tyne

(Property Litigation Background Welcome)

A leading national law firm with a strong lender services offering is seeking an Associate or Senior Associate to join its expanding Banking & Litigation team. This is an exceptional opportunity to step into a role with genuine autonomy, high-quality work, and a niche specialism that you can truly make your own.

The firm is particularly interested in candidates based in the North East.

THE ROLE

This position sits within a well-established lender-focused litigation team that handles a wide range of matters for major financial institutions. While the work covers general banking litigation, there is a particularly strong property litigation element – making this an outstanding fit for a lawyer with 6–9 years’ experience in property-related disputes.

You will handle a varied and interesting caseload that may include:

  • Title rectification
  • Boundary disputes and title discrepancies
  • Property-related lender issues
  • Lease extension work as lenders become increasingly cautious
  • Repossession-linked matters flowing into the conveyancing side
  • More complex banking disputes escalated from the firm’s volume-focused mortgage/rent arrears team

This is a practice area with significant demand, giving the incoming lawyer the opportunity to become the go-to specialist within the team.

The broader lender services practice includes a process-driven banking litigation team, with technical matters referred into this specialist group – offering consistent workflow and excellent complexity.

WHAT THEY’RE LOOKING FOR

The firm is open to two key profiles:

  • Associate (approx. 6–7 PQE)
  • Senior Associate (approx. 8–9 PQE)

They are particularly interested in individuals with:

  • Strong property litigation experience (title rectification, boundaries, easements, title issues, repossession-linked matters)
  • OR a background in banking litigation
  • Confidence handling complex, technical disputes
  • A proactive mindset and desire to build a niche practice area

Property litigation specialists considering a move into banking litigation will be fully supported.

WHY THIS ROLE STANDS OUT
  • A high-demand niche area you can take ownership of
  • Excellent exposure to complex lender work
  • A balance of property and banking litigation
  • A supportive team environment with strong partner backing
  • Clear progression pathways at both Associate and Senior Associate level
  • National-quality work within a close-knit regional team
