This is a Healthcare Assistant role at Thornford Park Hospital in Thatcham, Berkshire, which is part of Elysium Healthcare. The role involves providing compassionate, person-centred care to individuals at various stages of their recovery journey, supporting ward rounds, assisting with everyday tasks, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to deliver holistic, tailored support. As a Healthcare Assistant, you’ll bring empathy, patience, and resilience to a secure Mental Health setting, along with strong communication skills, emotional awareness, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. It can be challenging at times, but your positive attitude, adaptability, and commitment to delivering person-centred care will be key to succeeding in this role. Experience in mental health is beneficial, as Thornford Park provides medium and low secure forensic services, PICU care, and specialist pathways for Mental Health illness, Personality Disorders, Learning Disabilities, and Autism.

You’ll work alongside a supportive multidisciplinary team, using your skills to help individuals progress along their recovery journey. As you grow in your role, you’ll have the opportunity to work across multiple wards and services and pursue qualifications in health and social care.

We offer a comprehensive three-week induction to help you thrive from day one.

The shift pattern is 12.5 hours per day

What You Will Be Doing:

Where You’ll Be Working:

Thornford Park is a 130bed hospital set within 21 acres of Berkshire countryside, offering a seamless care pathway across medium and low secure services, psychiatric intensive care units (PICUs), and rehabilitation flats. The site supports men and women with complex Mental Health needs, Personality Disorders, Learning Disabilities, and Autism—often with histories of offending or previous placement challenges.

Services include:

  • Medium & Low Secure Units for acute and long-term care
  • PICUs for individuals in psychiatric crisis
  • Older Adult Services with age-appropriate, holistic interventions
  • Specialist Learning Disability & Autism Pathways with integrated secure settings and step-down flats

You’ll be part of a recovery-focused, multidisciplinary team helping people move safely toward greater independence. Thornford Park is easily accessible via Thatcham train station, with shuttle transport available.
