Job description
Bank SLT – ASD Diagnostic Assessment Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Bank SLT to join the Specialist Children and Young People's Services (SCYPS) in Newham to undertake ASD diagnostic assessments. The post sits within the Child Development Service and works in the CHAND (Children with Autism in Newham Diagnosis) team. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, forward‑thinking practitioner with experience of neuro‑developmental conditions and an interest in ASD to join our Staff Bank.

The role requires working in partnership with the wider multi‑disciplinary team, contributing to multi‑professional assessments of neuro‑developmental conditions in children and young people and providing specialist advice across professional boundaries. It also involves developing streamlined patient care pathways between nursing, GP's and paediatricians, and setting up shared care arrangements for each child as appropriate. Assessment outcomes will be discussed and agreed with patients, carers and other health‑care professionals, promoting health education and self‑management while keeping the child, young person and family at the centre of all care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist SLT assessment within the autism diagnostic pathway CHAND for children and young people aged 2‑11 years.
  • Undertake ADOS assessments as part of the diagnostic assessment.
  • Conduct joint and single clinician assessments as part of the multi‑agency autism assessment team.
  • Provide autism assessment reports for families adhering to pathway standards.
  • Provide advice to parents and professionals on creating a supportive communication environment.
  • Be part of the CHAND diagnostic multi‑agency team providing specialist assessments and diagnostic services to children and young people aged 2‑11 years, supported by senior staff.
  • Liaise with teaching staff to gather information to support diagnostic assessments.
  • Work as part of the CHAND diagnostic pathway.
  • Work jointly with more senior colleagues and other professionals to undertake diagnostic assessments.
