Overview

Are you ready to make a significant impact in community dentistry? Join the Dorset and Somerset Primary Care Dental Service, providing exceptional patient care under the leadership of a Consultant in Special Care Dentistry. This position focuses on clinical leadership within our service, with opportunities to discuss your skills and experience and plan the next step in your community dentistry career.

This position is primarily clinical, with some management and leadership responsibilities. You will work with senior colleagues and the wider dental team to deliver safe, effective, and high-quality care within our community dental service.

Responsibilities

As a member of our experienced team, you will support and mentor those new to or progressing in their dentistry careers. Duties include contributing to general anaesthesia services at Musgrove Park Hospital and Yeovil District Hospital in Somerset, and Dorset County Hospital in Dorset, with inhalation and intravenous sedation available in most clinics. The team collaborates with the Paediatric and Special Care Managed Clinical Networks for the South West, local dental committees, and other stakeholders. You will help expand our framework of clinical supervision and support continued training of Specialist Trainee Registrars. The service includes skilled dental therapists and a commitment to developing more therapists in the future.

Essential qualifications and experience
  • Full registration with the United Kingdom General Dental Council (GDC).
  • Specialist in Paediatric Dentistry or Special Care Dentistry on the GDC register.
  • BDS or equivalent.
  • NHS performer number for England.
  • Relevant postgraduate qualification in Paediatric Dentistry or Special Care Dentistry.
  • Experience of working within primary care.
  • Experience in assessing, treatment planning, and treating adults and children undergoing general anaesthesia and conscious sedation.
  • Experience in managing patients with dental trauma injuries.
Desirable qualifications and experience
  • Sedation qualification.
  • Leadership/management experience or qualifications.
  • Teaching qualifications.
