Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust are seeking a band 7 Dietitian with a special interest in Diabetes to join the team for a 12 month fixed term/secondment due to service expansion and the start of the insulin pump service.
We are looking for a self‑motivated, team player to join the Diabetes team to help improve patient care and outcomes across the Trust.
You must have experience in diabetes with a detailed knowledge of diabetes treatment and carbohydrate counting. Ideally you should have some experience caring for patients on insulin pumps, and be ready and willing to learn and develop this.
You will support type 1 diabetes patients and the insulin pump service. This includes dietitian‑led clinic participation and inpatient assessment of patients on pumps, reviewing and suggesting treatment, and providing advice and education to patients, relatives and ward staff.
You will need to be available to work across sites; initially based in KGH, you may be required to cover a 7‑day working week.
Although this position is a 12‑month fixed‑term contract, the actual duration will be adjusted to account for the time taken to advertise the post, complete the hiring process and finalise pre‑employment checks. The contract will begin when the candidate starts the role and may be slightly shorter than 12 months.
You will be involved in supporting and supervising junior dietitians and nurses. Each day brings a new, exciting challenge and there are always learning opportunities to embark on. You will work with a team that displays PRIDE values; Passion, Responsibility, Innovation, Drive, and Empowerment.
Provide a specialist, effective, flexible clinical dietetic service to the Diabetes & Endocrine Service at BHRUT, covering all diabetes patients (mainly outpatients but not exclusively) with a focus on Type 1 diabetes and those on insulin pumps.
Offer expert guidance and advice to other members of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) within the Endocrine & Diabetes Department, focusing on Type 1 diabetes and insulin pumps.
Undertake research and audit on a regular basis to ensure practice is evidence-based.
Lead service development within the clinical area and contribute to day‑to‑day running and development of the dietetic service through promotion, adaptation and development of policies, procedures and guidelines using evidence-based practice and current research.
Provide leadership for the dietetic service within the Endocrine & Diabetes Department.
Plan, coordinate, deliver and evaluate the dietetic service provided to diabetes patients within the specialist service.
We're an organisation that continually improves to deliver care we're proud of, and our patients are happy with.
We benefit from a new electronic patient record (we were the last acute trust in London to introduce one) and our maternity services have been rated good by the Care Quality Commission.
We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen's Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with over 330,000 visits last year. We're campaigning to secure the £35m needed to transform A&E at Queen’s and eliminate corridor care.
We're proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre, Radiotherapy Centre and Hyper‑Acute Stroke Unit. We are also part of the North East London Cancer Alliance.
We run a Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub. These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The majority of our 8,400 staff – from 146 different countries – live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve, many from Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Over 400 of them are on our Ofsted‑accredited apprenticeship programmes. We are proud to be a London Living Wage employer.
