Overview

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Band 6 Nurse to take on the role of Safeguarding Lead within our Theatres, Day Surgery and Recovery department. This position combines leadership in safeguarding with hands-on clinical expertise, offering the opportunity to make a real difference to patient safety and quality of care. As the departmental lead for safeguarding, you will champion best practice for both adults and children, ensuring policies are embedded, incidents are managed robustly, and effective communication is maintained with colleagues and external agencies. You will provide expert advice, guidance, and support to the team, helping to maintain a culture of vigilance and accountability.

Alongside your leadership role, you will deliver direct clinical care during paediatric surgical sessions, with a focus on the immediate post-anaesthetic and post-operative period. Your theatre experience will enable you to support patients throughout their surgical journey, ensuring the highest standards of compassionate, safe, and effective care.

Responsibilities
  • Lead safeguarding within Theatres, Day Surgery and Recovery; champion best practice for adults and children; embed safeguarding policies; ensure incidents are robustly managed; maintain effective communication with colleagues and external agencies.
  • Provide expert advice, guidance, and support to the team to sustain a culture of vigilance and accountability.
  • Deliver direct clinical care during paediatric surgical sessions, focusing on the immediate post-anaesthetic and post-operative period.
  • Support patients throughout their surgical journey with high standards of compassionate, safe, and effective perioperative care.
  • Dedicate time to Theatres, Day Surgery, and Recovery, providing visible clinical support and acting as a safeguarding liaison nurse; offer safeguarding advice, support, and training; demonstrate initiative, flexibility and the ability to manage a busy workload.
  • Support delivery of high-quality, safe and compassionate healthcare; act as a role model; demonstrate the organisation's PRIDE values (Passion, Responsibility, Innovation, Drive and Empowerment).
  • Contribute to a forward-thinking and growing team; be flexible to work in a dynamic environment, with a focus on Recovery services.
Qualifications and Attributes
  • Band 6 Nurse with experience in safeguarding and perioperative care.
  • Passion for delivering high-quality services in Recovery; suitable to work in a dynamic, busy environment.
  • Ability to lead, collaborate in a multidisciplinary team, and train colleagues on safeguarding.
  • Flexible, proactive, and willing to take initiative to support a busy workload.
