Overview

An exciting new opportunity has arisen across our Birmingham Heartlands and Good Hope Hospital sites to appoint a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to work within our acute Speech and Language therapy team on a fixed term contract basis for 12 months.

You will be welcomed into a large and supportive therapy team with excellent training and development opportunities, as well as a robust supervision and appraisal system. You will have the opportunity to work alongside highly specialist staff and have access to regular videofluoroscopy & FEES clinics. The successful candidate will have suitable post graduate clinical experience, demonstrable interest in acute care, with competency in both communication and dysphagia management.

Responsibilities
  • Join and contribute to a large, supportive acute SLT team across Birmingham Heartlands and Good Hope Hospital sites.
  • Provide specialist Speech and Language Therapy with focus on communication and dysphagia management in an acute care setting.
  • Participate in regular videofluoroscopy & FEES clinics.
  • Manage and prioritise your own case load and supervise the work of therapy support workers/assistants.
  • Work as part of a close multi-professional team and engage in regular supervision and professional development.
  • Participation in the weekend service is required.
  • Role available on both full-time and part-time bases with flexible working arrangements discussed on offer.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Postgraduate clinical experience in Speech and Language Therapy.
  • Demonstrable interest in acute care with competency in both communication and dysphagia management.
  • Organised, flexible and adaptable with strong problem-solving and clinical reasoning abilities.
  • Experience of close multi-professional working and excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise a personal caseload and experience in supporting/supervising therapy support workers or assistants.
