Band 6 Senior Mental Health Practitioner - STICK Team

Do you want to make a difference to the mental health of children and young people and help shape early intervention services in Birmingham?

The STICK team are part of Forward Thinking Birmingham (FTB) and now part of Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Trust.

As a band 6 senior mental health practitioner working within the STICK team you will have the opportunity to provide early assessment and intervention to young people across Birmingham. You will work across a variety of locations including schools, GP surgeries, mental health hubs and in young people's homes. This role has an element of hybrid working between working from home and in the community. You will also offer consultation and liaison to schools and other professionals working with young people.

The STICK team is comprised of nurses, CBT therapists, social workers and occupational therapists. You will have the opportunity to develop new skills and have plenty of opportunity to shadow experienced clinicians accessing regular supervision from your colleagues.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide a training and consultation service to education, social care and health teams across Birmingham; they will also offer Mental health Assessments and brief Mental Health interventions to young people aged 5‑18, enabling children and young people to access help with their mental health at the earliest opportunity. The post will require clinical competence in assessing the mental health needs of children, young people and young adults, care planning, delivering therapeutic interventions and risk planning. Consultation to professionals will also be required alongside the delivery of training to professionals as part of the wider STICK service.

The post holder will be expected to work autonomously with minimal guidance.

Hybrid working between travelling across Birmingham (including schools, GP practices, hubs) and working from home.
