Overview

At the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust we put our patients at the heart of every element of health and care that we provide. We are pleased to announce that following our CQC inspection we have been rated ‘Good’. This role involves providing specialist occupational therapy for older people and involvement in service development projects to provide continuous improvement within the area. The post will operate across the six inpatient elderly care wards including the Hip Fracture Unit and involve weekly Movement Disorders and Falls MDT clinics.

Responsibilities
  • Be an occupational therapist specialist for Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust Hospital.
  • Participate in operational management and clinical leadership of occupational therapy in conjunction with the Band 7 Advanced specialist.
  • Use specialist occupational therapy knowledge and clinical reasoning skills to provide support and advice to the team and manage own caseload of patients with complex conditions as an autonomous practitioner.
  • Ensure a high quality, effective and efficient occupational therapy service in the designated area.
  • Be a member of the Therapy Department contributing to planning and policy development.
  • Deputise for the Band 7 Advanced specialist as required.
  • Develop leadership skills and progress as a Band 5 or 6 professional.
Qualifications
  • Degree or other recognised qualification in occupational therapy.
  • Postgraduate specialist experience, demonstrated by ongoing CPD, evidence‑based project work, postgraduate teaching.
  • HCPC registered.
  • Specialist postgraduate experience.
  • Understanding of a broad range of elderly care conditions.
  • Post‑graduate training in the management of conditions.
  • Experience of teaching and presenting to other staff.
  • Experience of supervising and developing other staff and students.
Desirable
  • BSc OT.
  • Specialist knowledge in a related area.
  • Research or audit experience.
  • Training and presentation skills.
  • Car driver with UK driving licence; able to drive pooled car for access visits.
