An opportunity has arisen within our Specialist Eating Disorder Service. We are looking for two enthusiastic, self-motivated and innovative Dietitians with an interest and/or experience of working within specialist mental health eating disorder services.

We are looking for someone who enjoys working as part of a multi-disciplinary team and someone who wants to make a difference to our service users, families and the communities we serve.

The one post is primarily based on the inpatient ward in Stafford and the other post primarily works across both Staffordshire and Shropshire community teams. Both positions have a requirement to travel between bases and work across the Staffordshire and Shropshire localities.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a high level of verbal and non verbal communication skills. A degree of flexibility in approach is required along with a willingness to learn whilst working in a clinical area of specialism that can bring its challenges.

The role involves working within a multi professional team and alongside other dietetic colleagues to provide a highly specialist dietetic service to adult out-patients and in-patients receiving treatment from the Eating Disorder Team and forming a key element of the treatment care pathways.

Providing a highly specialist dietetic service to adult out-patients, in-patients and day treatment services receiving treatment from MPFT Eating Disorder Team and forming a key element of clinical care pathways.

To be an integral part of the multidisciplinary eating disorders team and be an expert in the provision of nutritional advice, education and training to nursing staff, doctors, dietetic students and other health care professionals.

To be responsible for the development of junior members of the dietetic team and support the development of the dietetic service delivery within the Eating Disorder Services.

Job responsibilities

Professional / Clinical Practice

To complete a comprehensive assessment of service user needs (including cultural, religion, family and environmental influences, eg shift patterns), ability/skill, motivation and nutritional intake to provide a nutritional diagnosis (interpretation of biochemistry, medical history, anthropometric measurements, medication, diet history and nutritional intake). To agree in collaboration with the service users an overall aim of dietetic intervention and specific goals/areas for change. To work as an autonomous practitioner without the direct/immediate support of colleagues. In more complex cases, there will be increased use of investigative and analytical skills to identify the most appropriate intervention (sometimes from a range of options). Where appropriate seeking advice, supervision and clinical guidance from the Band 7 dietitian and wider MDT. To use a range of dietetic assessments tools, eg anthropometric measurements, growth biochemical data, specialised nutritional calculations (eg artificially fed patients etc), computer packages, eg nutritional analysis (including data input and interpretation or results), questionnaires, observations, discussion groups etc. To plan, advise (often spontaneously) and support delivery of the dietetic intervention, including gaining valid informed consent. This may involve use of clinical reasoning, education, collaboration and counselling skills, motivational interviewing and behaviour modification techniques, calculation of nutritional requirements and recommending prescriptions of ACBS products. To provide on going review, to evaluate and to modify as appropriate the dietetic intervention, taking account of changes in needs, knowledge, pathological processes, growth, medication and biochemistry etc. To contribute and/or organise multi-disciplinary reviews, case conferences etc. To advise on appropriate equipment, eg enteral feeding pumps and ancillaries, and educate patients/carers to ensure safe and appropriate use. To work with the senior dietitian and clinical lead to ensure the service has access to diet sheets and other educational literature, nutritional supplements and other equipment. To work autonomously under supervision with a designated caseload as agreed with the Band 7 lead dietitian, operational team lead and clinical lead where appropriate. To be professionally, legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own work, including the management and organisation of own work area and/or patient caseload (according to clinical priority, available time and resources). To be aware of own limitations and to seek help and advice from colleagues (dietetic and within the wider multidisciplinary team). To be a source of dietetic expertise / advice and guidance within the team and to the wider multi-disciplinary, multi-agency team. To initiate referral to other health professionals as appropriate and to be actively engaged in multi-disciplinary /multi-agency case conferences or reviews. To raise safeguarding concern regarding the safety of vulnerable adults or children immediately to the safeguarding team, Service Managers and/or relevant organisation (e.g. Social Services) and to be involved, where necessary, in investigations/reviews (following locally agreed safeguarding guidelines). To co-produce with service users and families utilising the knowledge of lived experience expert groups/support organisations. To actively collaborate with service users/families/cares in service delivery/developments. To have knowledge and understanding of the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act and how this applies to service users with Eating Disorders. To initiate, plan, organise and deliver developments/changes in services within eating disorders. This may involve uni/multi-disciplinary working, involvement in or leading working groups etc. To initiate, plan, organise and deliver training and/or education sessions for dietetic team and for other staff and public (internal and external to organisation). To undertake audits and research within agreed local/national guidelines, including reporting on outcomes of dietetic interventions. This will involve applying research methodologies and disseminating findings through reports, briefings/articles (including journal articles) and presentations. To develop evidence-based literature, standards, guidelines, teaching aids and other resources within agreed local guidelines. This will involve undertaking literature searches and critically appraising information obtained. To actively contribute to the induction of new members of dietetic team, shadowing by students from other professions and work experience placements. To delegate appropriate work and provide effective guidance, to admin/clerical staff supporting the dietetic/multi-disciplinary team. Qualifications & Training

• Degree or equivalent post grad qualification in Nutrition and Dietetics
• Registered as a Dietitian with the Health and Care Professions Council
• Appropriate range of post registration specialist professional knowledge and experience acquired through recognised academic study and practical clinical education
• Relevant clinical update courses
• Clinical supervisory skills course
• Teaching and/or leadership qualification
• Completion of behavioural change course (levels 1 & 2) or equivalent
• Member of British Dietetic Association
