We are seeking a proactive Band 5 Custody Nurse/Paramedic to join our dynamic team in Blackburn. What you will do
  • Respond promptly to calls as directed by the call centre, providing high‑standard clinical assessments and care to detainees.
  • Evaluate fitness for detention, interviews, release, or transfer while offering necessary healthcare interventions for minor illnesses or injuries.
  • Conduct forensic examinations, record or offer opinions on injuries, and collect DNA evidence when needed.
  • Examine police officers or staff injured on duty, recording injuries and managing care appropriately.
  • Collect specimens as per legislative requirements and work in compliance with the Police and Criminal Evidence Act.
  • Prepare written statements within 7-10 days of requests and provide oral testimony in court if necessary.
  • Keep accurate, contemporaneous clinical records available even if contracts end.
  • Conduct assessments for alcohol and drug intoxication, withdrawal, mental health, and learning disabilities.
  • Assist in developing medical services with the Clinical Lead and Head of Clinical Operations.
  • Fulfill duties as a Forensic Clinician, promoting equality, diversity, dignity, respect, information governance, and safeguarding policies.
  • Use our RADAR System efficiently.

To thrive in this role, you will need to be a Registered Nurse – adult or Paramedic with a minimum of two years qualified experience (or three years depending on the contract) and hold NMC or HCPC registration. Experience in A&E, ITU, EAU, SAU, or similar environments is beneficial, along with a valid UK driving licence and access to a car.
