Job description
Overview

A Vacancy at Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. This is a 2 year fixed term training contract leading to a level 3 pharmacy technician qualification, after which the successful candidate will become a registered pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

Program and Training

The trainee will undertake distance learning and participate in a comprehensive in-house training programme provided by the team, with rotation through the different areas within Pharmacy. Apprentices spend a minimum of 6 hours per week of their working hours completing classroom-based learning, in addition to on-the-job training.

The trainee will undertake a 2 year comprehensive training and educational programme while working towards gaining the pharmacy technician qualification, enabling registration with the GPhC on successful completion and practice as a qualified pharmacy technician within the United Kingdom.

Responsibilities and Learning Goals
  • Learn about pharmacy services under the guidance, direction, control or supervision of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and other staff to practice the skills of a qualified pharmacy technician.
  • Rotations will allow training, experience, and competency assessment in many aspects of hospital pharmacy under supervision.
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team and meet deadlines under pressure; demonstrate dynamic, self-motivated, and collaborative working practices.
  • Travel between Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust sites as part of the role.
Working Hours and Rotations

Working hours are 37.5 per week, inclusive of weekend and late duty hours, on a rotational basis. The candidate will be expected to cover a bank holiday shift once each year and will complete rotations across the Trust sites. Annual leave entitlement will be as per Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate must be dynamic, self-motivated, willing to work hard, learn from a multidisciplinary team, and be a team player with proven ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure. Excellent communication and IT skills, attention to detail, and the ability to travel between sites are essential.

Trainees are expected to work towards the attached job description and should not be expected to perform the full duties of the role until competencies are signed off.
