Job summary

A Public Sector organisation in Edinburgh is looking for experienced AWS Solutions Architects for a cloud migration project. This role requires at least 3 years of experience in senior cloud architecture, strong stakeholder management skills, and the ability to define secure hosting strategies within AWS. The position is hybrid with a 6-month contract, paying approximately £600-£700 per day. Ideal candidates will have the expertise to communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders effectively.

ASA Recruitment’s client, a Public Sector organisation in Edinburgh, are currently looking to recruit 2x AWS Solutions Architects on a hybrid basis, on initial 6 month contracts (with potential extensions) on a rate of c.£600-£700/day outside of IR35 (based on experience).

The Role

Our client requires two experienced AWS Cloud Solution Architects to work on their Cloud Migration project to migrate their on-premise estate to AWS Cloud.

Responsibilities
  • Work within an architecture team to:
    • analyse and assess the existing on-premises IT estate.
    • define an alternative hosting strategy within Amazon Web Services
    • develop a roadmap for migration of core services to cloud.
    • define a migration strategy.
    • Provide a level of technical governance to ensure the migration approach is carried out effectively within the tight deadlines.
    • Form part of the ARB (Architecture Review Board). This will be setup to allow the supplier to represent artefacts, designs, patterns, and solutions, this will ensure full and transparent oversight into what is being implemented during the migration.
  • Undertake structured analysis of functional issues and identify alternative architecture.
  • Identify improvements, enhancements, risks and issues.
  • Look for opportunities to define reusable components and patterns
  • Communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Deliver on technology where there may be gaps, this could include certain areas or Deliverables not factored in for the supplier, recognised as important later in the project lifecycle (eg. FinOps, Tagging or Operating Models)
  • Maintenance of Confluence site and continuous improvements of the evolving standards and patterns, so our client can ensure we are aligned to AWS best practices.
  • Ensure that all Acceptance into Service requirements are met by all third parties.
  • Ensure that all pre-requisite services for remote access are secure, reliable and fully documented.

This role is focused on the strategic cloud migration work within the programme:

  • Work directly with stakeholders to understand the problem and identify opportunities and risks associated with migrating from on-premises to Amazon Web Services.
  • Collect and define technical requirements to enable cloud migration to support business process and integrations with back office on-premises systems.
  • Identify and advise on application architecture with supporting rationale/ evidence.
  • Ensure all architecture is secure by design and adheres to best practice.
  • Work alongside application developers, engineers, designers and testers to ensure optimal solution and implementations.
  • Provide subject matter expertise.
Essential Experience
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a senior cloud architecture role with extensive experience defining secure and robust architecture.
  • Strong written communication and presentation skills, with the ability to present ideas clearly and at short notice to a mix of technical and business audiences.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, comfortable dealing with challenge and ambiguity.
  • Experience assessing and documenting the existing functional landscape for both commercial off the shelf products and in-house developed Java applications hosted on-premise.
  • Identify functional improvements in order to prepare the applications to be migrated to Amazon Web Services.
  • Experience analysing and identifying improvements to the application data architecture.
  • Identify alternative application architecture for existing applications within Amazon Web Servicesli>
  • Identify and define AWS migration strategies for each application.
  • Understanding of SOAP and REST APIs, API Gateways & API Management.
  • In-depth experience identifying and defining security controls within AWS.
  • Identify roles, operating model and service management policy and procedures.
