Job description
Automation Engineers (Level II & Level III) Industrial Automation / Controls Integration
Overview

Climate17 are proud to be supporting a national leader in electrical planning, engineering, technology, and energy services, helping them hire talented Automation Engineers (Level II and III) to join their growing team in Wisconsin.

These are hands‑on roles within a forward‑thinking organisation that combines electrical engineering, automation, and energy innovation to deliver high‑impact industrial projects across manufacturing, food & beverage, and renewable energy sectors.

You’ll be part of a culture built on safety, technical excellence, and continuous learning - where career progression, training, and personal development are actively encouraged.

The Opportunity

As an Automation Engineer, you’ll be responsible for the software design, implementation, and support of automation and process control system projects - from new installations to system upgrades and ongoing customer support.

You’ll take ownership of the full lifecycle: programming, commissioning, troubleshooting, and start‑up of automation systems at client sites. Activities are often performed on‑site at customer facilities, requiring a blend of technical skill, independence, and collaboration.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing, programming, and commissioning PLC / HMI systems for automation and process‑control projects.
  • Programming using Rockwell Studio 5000, RSLogix 500/5000, FactoryTalk ME/SE, PanelView, and related technologies.
  • Developing code from scratch, implementing modifications, and supporting integration and start‑up.
  • Reading and interpreting control schematics, P&IDs, and process flow diagrams.
  • Configuring and commissioning VFDs, managing switch setups, and assisting with basic IT connectivity (ports, firewalls, networks).
  • Leading or contributing to site start‑ups, troubleshooting, and service support under pressure.
  • Working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team that includes Systems Architects, Project Engineers, and other Automation Engineers.
  • Participating in an after‑hours on‑call rotation to support customer operations.
About You

We’re looking for practical, self‑motivated engineers who enjoy solving complex problems, working hands‑on, and taking pride in delivering high‑quality automation solutions.

You will bring:

  • An Associate Degree in Automated Manufacturing, Electro‑Mechanical Technology, EET or similar (BS Engineering also considered).
  • A valid driver’s licence and ability to travel 25–50%.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and general PC literacy.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and analytical thinking skills.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative, solutions‑oriented attitude.
Experience level guide

Automation Engineer II: 3–7 years of PLC/HMI programming and system start‑up experience.

Automation Engineer III: 10 years of advanced programming, commissioning, and leadership experience, including mentoring others and owning project start‑ups independently.

Why Join This Organisation
  • Be part of a progressive, national leader redefining what’s possible in automation and energy integration.
  • Accelerate your growth through industry‑leading training, mentorship, and leadership development programmes.
  • Work with cutting‑edge technology, including 3D scanning, virtual & augmented reality, and robotic total stations.
  • Join a business that places uncompromised focus on safety - consistently outperforming industry standards.
  • Benefit from a comprehensive package including paid training, tuition reimbursement, wellness incentives, and career‑path development.
  • Thrive in a “Ground‑Up Growth” culture that recognises individual merit and rewards results that drive team success.
