Job Overview
The post holder will be the Consortium Strategic Lead for a portfolio of highly complex and high visibility audit, assurance and consultancy reviews. They will manage, control and deliver these reviews, apply risk management and assurance principles to the planning and delivery of audit work, and advise senior managers and Directors on complex issues.
Main duties of the job
- Control and manage the delivery of highly complex and high visibility audit, assurance and consultancy reviews, ensuring delivery with minimal line‑management supervision and continual review of relevancy, plan delivery and in‑year changes.
- Assist in the production of internal audit briefings and papers in formats specified by the Director of Audit and Assurance Services.
- Attend Audit Committees and other committees (e.g., Governance Committee, Risk Management Committee) in an advisory capacity.
Person specification: Essential criteria
- Expertise in governance, risk management and assurance matters, ideally in relation to the NHS.
- Experience of working in a large organisation and dealing with sensitive internal audit issues.
- Full understanding of professional audit standards, e.g., the Public Sector Internal Audit Standards.
- Valid driving licence and reliable access to a car for travel to a range of sites.
- Well‑developed verbal and written communication skills, including report writing, negotiating, questioning and presentational skills.
- Possession of a CCAB/Institute of Internal Audit qualification or equivalent.
- Degree educated and/or significant relevant specialist experience.
- Minimum of 5 GCSEs, including English Language at Grade C or above.

- Previous experience in NHS finance/administration.
