ABOUT THE FIRM:

Butler Rose Northern practice division is delighted to be working with a growing, family-friendly accountancy practice, providing a broad range of services to a diverse portfolio of owner-managed businesses and entrepreneurs. They are expanding their team with an Audit & Accounts Senior. With circa 15-20 staff, and a mix of qualified professionals (ACA/ACCA and/ or CTA), they offer a friendly, supportive environment where employees thrive and longevity is the norm. The firm operates across Lancashire, Cumbria, and Greater Manchester, servicing clients from a variety of sectors.

THE ROLE:

The role of Audit & Accounts Senior offers a varied workload with a 50/50 split between audit and accounts responsibilities, making it ideal for someone who enjoys a mix of tasks and thrives in a dynamic environment. Your week may include management accounts, VAT, and year-end accounts one week, followed by audits for larger clients the next.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Managing a portfolio of clients, including audits for companies ranging from £10m to £50m in turnover
  • Leading audits and preparing financial statements for a wide range of industries, including hospitality, manufacturing, retail, and more
  • Supporting the Directors with business planning and tax compliance
  • Preparing and reviewing management accounts, VAT returns, and year-end accounts
  • Liaising directly with clients to ensure high‑quality service delivery
  • Managing junior staff and providing support and mentoring where appropriate
ABOUT YOU:

The ideal candidate will have experience in both audit and accounts, with a solid understanding of UK GAAP. You should be comfortable managing your own portfolio, with the ability to balance multiple tasks effectively. The firm would particularly welcome someone who is ACA/ACCA qualified (or equivalent), though those with relevant experience at a semi‑senior level will also be considered.

  • Proficient in accounting software such as Sage, Xero, Quickbooks, and Iris
  • Familiarity with audit software, such as Mercia or bespoke audit packages
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients and colleagues
  • Ability to manage a diverse workload and prioritise tasks effectively
