Audio Typist/ Admin Support

An opportunity has arisen for an Audio Typist/ Admin Support within the Rheumatology Department at York Hospital.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual who can work effectively using their own initiative, as well as being part of a team. They must be a proficient Audio Typist with the ability to transcribe complex digital dictation and provide daily administration service support within Rheumatology.

The post holder will provide a range of administrative support. The successful candidate will have effective administrative and computer skills, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Additionally, you should be able to work on your own initiative in prioritizing workload and meeting deadlines, whilst also being able to work in a team.

The successful candidate will possess GCSE English Language, Grade C or above, or equivalent. They must also possess excellent typing skills or qualifications, as well as previous clerical/administrative experience, preferably in a healthcare or customer based setting.

Main duties of the job

Duties will mainly include the audio typing of outpatient/admin letters and reports, and dealing with any subsequent instruction as indicated by the dictation such as making outpatient appointments whilst offering administrative support to the clerical team.

  • Audio typing of outpatient clinic, discharge and general administrative letters.
  • Communicate effectively with the use of tact and diplomacy, and seek to overcome barriers to effective communication. This may require the use of multiple communication methods, such as email, telephone, reception duties, etc.
  • Filing, photocopying and other administrative tasks as necessary.
  • Provide typing and administrative support to the medical secretary’s within the Directorate.
  • Deal with routine internal telephone queries.
  • Respond in a professional and sensitive manner when dealing with confidential issues.
  • Administrative support including appointment booking and general administrative tasks.
  • Undertake effective prioritization of own workload and the coordination of activities / duties related to the role.
