Overview
The Attendance Manager will work closely with pupils, parents/carers, school staff, and external agencies to remove barriers to attendance and support pupils' educational engagement, wellbeing, and welfare. The ability to communicate clearly and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for this role. The core purpose of the post is to reduce absence and persistent absenteeism. The post holder will be responsible for promoting a positive culture of good school attendance in all the partner schools. Duties and Responsibilities the job description is to be performed in accordance with DCC term‑time only contractual duties. Relationships: the post holder is responsible to the Head of Safeguarding, Data and Attendance and will report to the Head of Safeguarding, Data and Attendance for his/her Attendance Manager role and related duties and responsibilities. Responsibilities of the Attendance Manager: The particular responsibilities attached to this post are as follows:
Responsibilities
- to work alongside key school staff in the partnership schools to promote excellent attendance, reduce levels of absence and persistent absence and to work with children and families to promote high levels of attendance;
- to coordinate the work and caseload of attendance officer and attendance admin staff
- ensure daily attendance registers are accurate and complete, and follow up with staff members about any incomplete data
- to work closely with key staff in schools to identify and resolve attendance issues;
- to promote a positive attendance and punctuality culture within the partnership schools;
- the ability to form relationships with parents and carers;
- hold attendance meetings to engage parents and carers directly, using a variety and range of skills to enable them to understand and fulfil their legal responsibilities in relation to their children's school attendance.
- also, with parental permission, to engage school children, encouraging and enabling them to develop a positive attitude to school; this may include escorting pupils to/from home to support their attendance in school, when required;
- agree support plans and targets with parents and carers, and implement agreed interventions;
- to undertake home visits (when circumstances allow) to improve pupil attendance;
- to monitor and analyse whole school attendance data and advise key staff of trends, concerns and referrals;
- to effectively monitor the attendance of vulnerable groups of pupils and liaise with staff as appropriate;
- to liaise with the schools’ Designated Safeguarding Leads regarding child protection;
- to work alongside the DCC Attendance Improvement Team to issue and pursue relevant sanctions;
- to implement assertively and accurately the administration of fixed penalty notices and referrals;
- to produce, maintain and update detailed case notes and school records to be shared with Head Teachers;
- to ensure accurate and appropriate recording of casework which may lead to referral;
- to prepare court statements; attend and evidence in Magistrates Court as required;
- to actively engage in conversations and attendance procedures with parents and carers, including those conversations and procedures which may be, at times, challenging;
- to have knowledge of statutory safeguarding requirements and to implement these as appropriate;
- follow LA procedures for Children Missing in Education (CME) including making notifications;
- to have knowledge of GDPR procedures;

- to produce regular reports on progress and achievements to the Management Committee;

Salary & Hours
Term time only plus two additional weeks' pay is calculated on the basis of the following:
- Number of 'teaching' weeks - 38 weeks; plus
- Public (bank) holidays - 1.6 weeks (8 days); plus
- Two additional weeks, inclusive of CPD - 2 weeks; plus
- Individual leave entitlement - 5.4 weeks (27 days) or 6.4 weeks (32 days)
Individual leave entitlement is calculated on the length of continuous service. Employees with less than 5 years' service will receive 27 days annual leave. Employees with more than 5 years' service will receive 32 days annual leave. For example:
- Calculation for employees with less than 5 years' service: 40 weeks (term time plus 2) + 27 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 47 weeks' pay, to be paid in 12 equal monthly instalments
- Calculation for employees with more than 5 years' service: 40 weeks (term time plus 2) + 32
