Role Overview

This is a full‑time hybrid role for a Senior Associate or Director Project Manager at Ingleton Wood. The cost centre will be Nottingham, but the candidate will work across the practice where required. We offer flexible remote work as the defence sector at Ingleton Wood is UK National coverage.

The position will lead defence‑related projects, liaising with clients and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery. The role also involves strategic planning, business development, and team management with national coverage.

Applicants must have experience in defence‑sector design/project management, strategic planning and stakeholder engagement, with knowledge of regulatory requirements and standards in the defence industry.

Strong leadership, communication, decision‑making, and cross‑functional team management skills are essential. Proficiency in project management tools and software related to Engineering Architecture or Defence Management is a plus.

The candidate will be a forward planner and motivator, managing large teams across the practice to produce coordinated design packages. They must present ideas effectively, evaluate others’ ideas, and possess in‑depth knowledge of all aspects of a construction project, acting as an efficient document manager.

Key tasks include accumulating and producing design submissions, such as design narratives, technical design submittals, RFIs, Change Control, and financial tracking/scheduling.

The role will be the focal point for multiple design deliveries, requiring strong people skills and client‑facing capability. The candidate will also be responsible for maintaining and securing additional projects, managing existing clients, and generating new opportunities.

The role enables close collaboration with Defence Directors and Partners of Practice to shape the future of our defence strategy and contribute to the wider succession plan.

Successful applicants must hold or be able to obtain active UK SC Clearance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the design process using commercial contractual programme/time awareness and technical expertise.
  • Support business development of new clients and manage existing ones.

  • Support the defence leadership team in business development and the overall secure infrastructure growth strategy.
  • Provide direction and feedback on team and individual objectives.
  • Ensure the design process recognises current legislation, standards, and codes of practice where appropriate.
  • Maintain design information quality and keep pace with project timescales.
  • Eliminate health and safety risks in design and financial risks during construction.
  • Run projects from inception to completion ranging in value from £300k to £10m.
  • Improve team profitability by managing time and resources and ensuring accurate fee invoicing.
  • Meet annual and monthly fee targets as directed by the Office Partner.
  • Liaise with internal and external consultants to ensure fully integrated production documentation.
  • Liaise with subcontractors, specialist suppliers, and other contractors, checking drawings as required.
  • Contribute to the regular review of activities to maximise effectiveness and delivery of design packages.
  • Assist with design management by other Ingleton Wood teams or offices as requested.
  • Take responsibility for day‑to‑day team management.
  • Foster two‑way communication and effective teamwork.
  • Implement measures to identify, manage, and minimise risks (financial, business continuity, health & safety).
  • Promote Ingleton Wood’s values and objectives to colleagues and externally, participating actively in promotion.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to equality and diversity, ensuring an inclusive environment where unacceptable behaviour is challenged.
  • Understand Ingleton Wood policies and contribute to policy development when appropriate.
