Job description
Associate Director – Commercial Development

Location : London | Salary : £99,808-£113,803

The Royal Marsden is internationally renowned for excellence in cancer treatment, research and education. As we embark on the next phase of our ambitious clinical and research strategies, we are investing significantly in our estate, expanding capacity, and developing new services that will continue to advance world-leading cancer care.

A central pillar of our strategy is ensuring sustainable investment and diversified income streams that can be reinvested back into patient care. While private patient services have traditionally supported this, we are increasingly identifying new commercial opportunities that complement and extend beyond the private care portfolio. These include :

  • Scaling specialist services to support patients and healthcare organisations beyond The Royal Marsden
  • Partnering with commercial companies to jointly innovate and develop market-leading services (e.g., incorporating advanced diagnostic technologies into existing pathways)
  • Developing new revenue-generating offers that leverage our clinical, diagnostic, research and educational expertise

We developed an initial commercial strategy in 2020, achieving early success particularly within clinical diagnostics. Building on this foundation, the Strategy & Transformation team has outlined several further high-value areas ready for exploration. To take this forward, we are now seeking an exceptional commercial leader.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Strategy, the post holder will lead the development and delivery of the next phase of the Trust’s commercial strategy and will be responsible for identifying, assessing and developing new commercial opportunities, taking them from concept through to business case, implementation and transition into business-as-usual.

  • Leading a programme of commercial development aligned to Trust strategy and long-term financial sustainability
  • Building, negotiating and managing partnerships—particularly those with a commercial or health-sector focus
  • Ensuring financial and strategic benefits are clearly defined, delivered and measured
  • Supporting multidisciplinary teams to execute projects and embed new services
  • Providing targeted input into adjacent commercial areas such as international advisory services and education as these teams build their capability
Qualifications

The successful candidate will have relevant experience including developing new services and partnerships with external stakeholders and contract negotiation. The post also requires experience in preparing and writing clear, persuasive papers to relevant decision-making governance groups. They will be expected to engage senior clinical, financial and operational leaders (internal and at partner organisations), including board level Executive Directors.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to shape the future commercial landscape of one of the world’s most respected cancer centres, ensuring we continue to invest in outstanding patient care, research and innovation. We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive individual who can bring people together and deliver outcomes.
