The Assistant Vice Principal – Raising Standards Lead at Haberdashers’ Hatcham College is a key member of the senior leadership team, responsible for driving academic excellence and improving student outcomes across the school. Reporting to the Executive Principal, the post-holder will lead initiatives to monitor and raise standards in pupil outcomes at KS3, 4 and 5. They will analyse performance data, identify gaps in achievement, and implement targeted strategies to enhance academic progress across all year groups.
The role involves working closely with the senior leaders responsible for Teaching, Learning and Assessment, pastoral senior leaders as well as subject leaders, teaching staff, and pastoral teams to embed best practices and maintain high-quality teaching standards. The AVP Raising Standards Lead will support staff development through coaching, mentoring, and professional learning programmes, ensuring consistent curriculum delivery, effective assessment, and robust progress tracking. They will foster a culture of high expectations and continuous improvement, promoting excellence in every classroom.
The AVP for Raising Standards will work most closely with year 11 (supported by the head of year 11 and the AP for KS4) and with the Head of Key Stage on year 13 outcomes. They will also be the digital strategy lead for the College – leading staff and pupils to embrace the opportunities (and challenges) that emerging technologies for teaching, learning & achievement.
In addition to academic oversight, the AVP Raising Standards Lead will contribute to the strategic direction of the college, reporting outcomes to the Senior Leadership Team, governors, and relevant stakeholders. They will lead initiatives to close attainment gaps, promote inclusivity, and enhance student engagement. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to the ethos and values of Haberdashers’ Hatcham College.
This role will be directly reporting to the Executive Principal.
