Assistant Transport Manager

At Tomato Plant is a haulage and infrastructure maintenance company and are proud of their attainment of FORs Gold and commitment to their clients and delivering work at a very high standard. This is allowing us to build an expanding client base and expand our fleet and personnel.

As such they are looking to recruit a proactive and detail-oriented Assistant Transport Manager to support the Transport Manager in overseeing daily fleet operations, compliance, and driver management. This role is critical in ensuring smooth logistics, regulatory adherence, and cost-effective transport services. This is an ideal position for either a recently qualified CPC holder or a route to gain this qualification.

The Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor vehicle maintenance, defect reporting, MOTs, PMI planning, and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
  • Supervise drivers regarding compliance, track working hours, monitor infringements, and promote safe driving practices.
  • Support cost control initiatives by reducing non-contract maintenance and damage costs.
  • Provide operational reports and support audits when required.
  • Undertake accident investigations and reporting.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of transport regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with fleet management systems
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Strong communication skills for liaising with managers, drivers, and customers.
  • IT proficiency in Microsoft office suite; logistics and fleet management software.
Experience Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years in transport / logistics, ideally in a supervisory or assistant management role.
  • Understanding of Road Haulage Operations and compliance to surrounding legislation would be desirable.
  • Holding either HGV class 1 or 2 desirable.
  • Familiarity with compliance audits and operational reporting.
  • Proven ability to support large-scale fleet operations, often in 24 / 7 environments.
