Job summary

A local government authority in Wolverhampton seeks an Assistant Team Manager for Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and Court of Protection. The ideal candidate will manage a dedicated team and ensure compliance with public health regulations. Job description

Job title: Assistant Team Manager – Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLs) & Court of Protection (COP)

Grade / Salary: Grade 8, £52,133–£56,730

Location: Wolverhampton, UK

Employment type: Permanent, 37 hours per week

Responsibilities
  • Directly line manage a dedicated team of Best Interest Assessors (BIAs), ad hoc independent BIAs and Court of Protection Officers.
  • Act on behalf of Wolverhampton Supervisory Body to manage and respond to DoLs requests under the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (2009).
  • Support BIAs to develop their practice and facilitate forums, and give expert advice on MCA/DoLs.
  • Work with key stakeholders to resolve disputes around DoLs and promote good practice regionally.
  • Ensure timely completion of DoLs assessments for citizens.
  • Ensure the City of Wolverhampton fulfills duties relating to Public Health Funerals under the Public Health Act (1984) and manage finances for people lacking capacity under the Mental Capacity Act (2025).
Qualifications
  • Registered social worker with Social Work England.
  • Completed Best Interest Assessor training.
  • Significant experience working with adults in complex situations.
  • Specialist knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act (2005) and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (2009) and ability to apply both.
