Nuclear Restoration Services Limited (NRS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). NRS is responsible for decommissioning first generation nuclear power stations Berkeley, Bradwell, Chapelcross, Dungeness A, Hinkley Point A, Hunterston A, Oldbury, Sizewell A, Trawsfynydd and Wylfa, and research sites Harwell and Winfrith. NRS is also responsible for electricity generation at hydroelectric plant Maentwrog. As a division of NRS, NRS Dounreay is responsible for the clean-up and demolition of the former centre of fast reactor research and development.

About the role

"Oldbury Nuclear Power station site is located on the Severn estuary, to the north of Bristol. The station ceased generation in 2012 and is now in a decommissioning phase. There are numerous aging assets on the site."

We are looking for an assistant project manager to support execution of projects within the site’s Asset Care delivery team.

As the site ages and continues to degrade, it is critical that we monitor this and adopt a proactive approach to maintaining the remaining assets to ensure continued safe operation. This role will be supporting the delivery of improvement projects, repairs, remediation and/or demolition identified as being required by the plant health review process.

The individual must be highly motivated, delivery focussed, self-driven, well organised, capable of managing multiple projects, good at problem solving and have good planning and communication skills."

Key Deliverables

  • Provide direct support to the Project Manager.
  • Perform effectively as part of a multi-disciplined asset care delivery team to achieve common project goals and overall organisational objectives.
  • Support the safe delivery of projects to time, cost and quality ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory process requirements with responsibility for leading the project to a successful conclusion.
  • Contribute to the creation and management of overall project plans, including schedules, monitoring activities, progress and milestones.
  • Support the production and maintenance of accurate and well organised project documentation, including scopes, business cases, technical queries, meeting minutes, project deliverables, issues registers and lessons learned documentation.
  • Manage communications with internal and external stakeholders where required to support project delivery.
  • Monitor and report on internal and contractor performance against safety, costs, programme and quality.
  • Identify issues and events that may constitute an increase or decrease in project scope, cost, or schedule and support implementation of remedial actions as appropriate.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Minimum HNC/NQF Level 4 or equivalent engineering or scientific qualification.

Desirable:

  • Certification in project management suggested, for example APM – PMQ (desirable) or willingness to work towards this.
  • CITB Construction Site safety certificate.
  • Experience in a highly regulated industry including such as engineering, procurement, construction/construction management.
  • Experience of performing functional tasks on projects with a basic understanding of PD25 Magnox Project Management process and procedures.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach, willing to take on new work challenges.
  • Proactive communicator both internally and externally to the project.
  • Customer focused with ability to develop and maintain positive and interactive project relationships.
  • Leads by example to ensure that Company Values are promoted and upheld.
  • Demonstrated active and innovative approach to problem solving and identifying solutions thinking, accountability, and adaptability skills.
  • Proactive reporting of progress and status of assignments including appropriate follow up.
  • Technical writing skills.
  • Ability to maintain high standards of performance with responsibility and accountability for successfully completing own assignments and tasks.

The successful candidate would be considered on a case-by-case basis and supported with a PDP (Personal Development Plan) to enable a clear path for progression into the role.

  • The equivalent of 25 days (185 hours per year) annual leave plus Public Holidays (59.2 hours per year). This increases by 2 days (14.8 hours per year) annual leave after two full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year) , and an additional 3 days (22.2 hours per year) annual leave after five full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year). You also have the option to buy or sell the equivalent of 5 days (37 hours) annual leave each year (available in specific windows for the following holiday year). For the purpose of assessing an employee’s annual leave entitlement, a day means seven and two fifths (7.4) hours. A pro rata entitlement will apply for part time workers.
