Overview

Join a dynamic and expanding organisation as an Assistant Manager, where you will play a crucial part in supporting accounting acquisitions, integrations, and projects, specifically focusing on UK acquisitions across our Retail, Pen & Specialty divisions. You will collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) across various accounting functions to ensure seamless integration of acquired finance functions into the Global Accounting Centre. You’ll engage with key stakeholders across the Global Accounting Centre, UK Senior Management, and central project teams to deliver successful project outcomes.

How you'll make an impact

Due Diligence - Accounting due diligence performed on potential targets:

  1. Assist with preparation of Accounting Due Diligence (DD) report to submit as part of wider project due diligence performed
  2. Review information/support provided by target to understand finance function, key risks and identify gaps in information provided
  3. Perform audit of balance sheet to ensure all balances are adequately supported
  4. Attend and periodically present on calls with potential targets to gain better understanding of finance operations.
  5. Identify and escalate any issues identified through the DD period to Accounting Manager/Senior Manager
  6. Attend DD project calls and periodically present on the status of accounting report/flag any issues.

Acquisition – Recording the transaction in the General Ledger

  1. Facilitate set up of Business Units for the acquisition, preparing relevant forms and seeking appropriate approvals.
  2. Assist with the preparation of the Acquisition Accounting pack, for submission to the US Corporate Accounting team to record the acquisition.
  3. Engage with Global Accounting Centre SMEs and newly acquired finance team to ensure month end delivered in line with AJG timeline.
  4. Assist in the preparation of the Completion Accounts and help to facilitate payment once agreed.

Integrations – Integrating the finance function into the AJG Global Accounting Centre

  1. Support the Accounting Manager/Senior Manager across UK Acquisition & Integrations Projects
  2. Help to develop and maintain detailed project plans for each integration. The team is responsible for integration deliverables covering Income, Management Accounts, Accounts Payable, Client Money and Treasury teams.
  3. Facilitate workshops and engage participants/SMEs from accounting functions to develop project plans and appropriate timelines.
  4. Coordinate workshops between newly acquired entity’s finance team and Global Accounting Centre SMEs to document “as is” state.
  5. Assist with preparation of weekly slide decks to provide accounting update for inclusion in wider project packs.
  6. Attend and periodically present at bi-weekly Operating Groups for each ongoing integration, raising Accounting issues/discussion points on these calls to ensure appropriate visibility of issues at project level.
  7. Liaise with project management teams across UK divisions to ensure deliverables are managed on time and issues escalated in a timely manner.
  8. Help drive SOX control gap analysis and manage remediation plan across accounting functions.
  9. Assist with acquired entity’s alignment to Gallagher’s Financial Policy Manual (FPM). Manage remediation plan across accounting functions.
  10. Assist with any ad hoc queries from Income/Management Accounts/Treasury/Client Money/IBA teams regarding ongoing integrations
  11. Manage records retention and legacy data repository process for all UK acquisitions.
  12. Escalate any issues to the Accounting Manager/Senior Manager on a timely basis to ensure issues get appropriate visibility from the outset.
About You
  • University degree and fully qualified accountant.
  • Good understanding and working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Previous experience of US GAAP desirable but not essential
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge
  • SoX and regulatory/control-based environment understanding desirable
  • Audit experience desirable
