Job summary

Randstad Education is working with a leading college in Cambridge to find a dynamic and inspirational Assistant Head of Department to drive quality, innovation, and success across our Trowel Trades and Multi-Skills curriculum.

As the Assistant Head of Department, you will be instrumental in the operational and academic success of your area. If you are a proven educational leader with a passion for improving student outcomes and mentoring a team to achieve excellence, this is the perfect platform for your ambitions.

This leading further education college, which serves the Cambridgeshire area, holds 'Good' and 'Strong' Ofsted ratings for fulfilling regional skills demands. The college provides specialist facilities for vocational training in numerous sectors, including construction, engineering, and hospitality.

This is a full time permanent position and you will be required to support five days a week Monday - Friday inline with their hours 08.30am - 04.30pm.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Trowel Trades & Multi-Skills teams.
  • Drive curriculum development and quality assurance (QA) processes.
  • Line manage staff, overseeing performance, appraisals, and development.
  • Analyse student data to improve retention and achievement outcomes.
  • Manage resources and staff timetabling across multiple campuses.
  • Uphold and enforce all safeguarding, safety, and quality policies.

Preferred Skills:

  • Essential Level 5+ teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, DET) & an IQA award.
  • Extensive leadership and teaching experience in a Further Education (FE) construction department.
  • Proven team leadership, motivation, and management skills.
  • Strong data analysis, administrative, and communication abilities.
  • The ability to travel independently between campuses is essential.
  • Full UK driving licence (highly desirable).
