Assistant Head of Department - Sports & Uniformed Protective Services
£44,409 per annum
Permanent position - 37 hours per week

Meridian Business Support is recruiting on behalf of a Cambridge-based college for the role of Assistant Head of Department for Sport & Uniformed Protective Services.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the leadership and development of the curriculum area, including effective management of staff and resources.
  • Champion excellence in teaching, learning, and assessment across the department.
  • Monitor and drive student progress through effective tracking and support systems.
  • Inspire and support staff to achieve consistently high standards and positive student outcomes.
  • Promote a culture of innovation, inclusion, and high performance within the department.
Qualifications and Skills
  • A teaching qualification such as DET, DTLLS, Cert Ed, or PGCE.
  • Extensive teaching experience in a Further Education setting.
  • A strong understanding of the FE sector with the ability to demonstrate relevant industry skills in sport or uniformed services.
  • Up-to-date Health & Safety knowledge relevant to the curriculum.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
Essential qualifications, experience and attributes
  • Level 5 or above teaching qualification such as DET, DTLLS or Cert Ed / PGCE; must hold or be working towards IQA Award or equivalent.
  • Extensive relevant experience working in an education/training provider.
  • Recent teaching experience in a further education setting.
  • Evidence of professional updating & development.
  • Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate relevant industry skills.
  • Detailed knowledge of relevant Awarding Body requirements.
  • Current Health & Safety knowledge relevant to the role.
  • Good interpersonal, administrative and communication skills; organised and able to meet deadlines.
  • Competent use of Microsoft Office and other software packages required to perform the role.
  • Ability to cultivate good working relationships with colleagues and to lead and motivate a team of staff.
