We are supporting a public-sector organisation seeking an experienced Asset Senior Maintenance Engineer to lead on street lighting and highway electrical assets. This is a key technical and managerial role overseeing planned, reactive and statutory maintenance across a large, diverse asset base.

You’ll be the technical lead for all highway electrical equipment, ensuring legislation, standards and safety obligations are fully met, while also driving improvements across systems, processes and team performance. The post offers the opportunity to shape change within the department and influence future service delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee day-to-day and strategic management of street lighting and all associated highway electrical assets.
  • Act as the main point of contact for all electrical matters within your service area.
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory duties, including periodic visual/structural inspections, electrical testing and record-keeping.
  • Lead a small maintenance team and supervise electrical contractors.
  • Manage maintenance regimes, works orders, costs and related KPIs.
  • Maintain and develop asset records and ensure accurate data input into the asset management system.
  • Hold and manage budgets relating to electrical testing, condition surveys, high mast lighting and similar asset groups.
  • Review and sign off electrical works, including checking pass/fail reports from technician tablets and providing the appropriate electrical approval/stamp.
  • Contribute to policy development, engineering standards and service-wide improvements.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders on lighting schemes, temporary displays and energy‑efficient projects.
  • Support accident‑damage claims and ensure best value is achieved.
  • Deputise for senior management as required.
About You

We are looking for a technically strong and forward‑thinking electrical professional with experience in street lighting or highway electrical services. You will also bring solid leadership capability and confidence managing people, systems and budgets.

Essential experience & skills include:
  • Background in street lighting, highway electrical assets or similar environment.
  • Strong electrical engineering knowledge – an Electrical Supervisor level background is ideal.
  • Experience supervising electrical contractors and managing asset compliance.
  • Excellent understanding of Health & Safety, CDM and statutory obligations.
  • Experience with asset management systems – familiarity with Sinology, I‑Aura or one of the major asset systems.
  • Ability to drive service improvements and implement change.
  • Strong organisational and record‑keeping skills.
  • Confident managing budgets and ensuring best value.
Sector background:

Private or public‑sector experience is welcomed.

Working Arrangements
  • 4 days per week office‑based is expected. Some remote working can be arranged depending on team needs and diary commitments.
