Aspiring Psychologist - Learning Support Assistant

Location: Maidenhead

Start Date: February 2026

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30am-3:45pm (term time only)

Pay: £101.40 per day

Training: Full education, training, and CPD provided

This Learning Support Assistant role is an excellent entry point into psychology, designed for graduates who want to gain practical, paid experience before progressing into Clinical, Educational, or Child Psychology.

Based in a specialist autism school in Maidenhead, you will support pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) who present with behavioural challenges, emotional regulation needs, and learning barriers. The focus of the role is on supporting behaviour, improving engagement, and raising attainment, within a structured, therapeutic, and nurturing environment.

Responsibilities
  • Supporting autistic pupils 1:1 and in small groups, addressing behaviour, attention, and emotional regulation
  • Applying strategies informed by behavioural psychology, attachment theory, and trauma‑informed practice to improve engagement and learning outcomes
  • Using structured routines, visual supports, and sensory strategies to reduce anxiety and support regulation
  • Working to raise attainment by helping pupils access learning, build confidence, and develop independence
  • Observing behaviour patterns, identifying triggers, and supporting proactive behaviour plans
  • Working alongside teachers, SEN specialists, and therapists, gaining exposure to multidisciplinary practice
  • Contributing to a calm, structured learning environment where pupils can thrive
  • Building safe, consistent relationships that support wellbeing and development
Candidate Profile
  • Educated to degree level in Psychology or a related discipline (or aspiring to enter psychology)
  • Passionate about autism, behaviour, child development, and inclusive education
  • Calm, patient, and resilient when supporting pupils with challenging behaviour
  • Interested in understanding why behaviour occurs and how it can be positively supported
  • Strong communicators who can build trusting, professional relationships
  • Committed to learning, reflection, and long‑term development in psychology
  • Experience supporting children or young people is beneficial but not essential
