Job summary

A healthcare organisation in Chelmsford is seeking an Aseptic Production Technician to deliver high-quality medicines. In this role, you will coordinate the supply of chemotherapy, manage aseptic preparations, and have opportunities to develop leadership skills. Ideal candidates should have relevant qualifications such as NVQ level 3 in Pharmacy Services and experience in an aseptic environment. This role offers a salary of £27,485 per annum.

Qualifications

  • Registered with the GPhc or Science Council or in the process of completing smt.

Are you passionate about delivering safe, high-quality medicines to patients? We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join our friendly team of pharmacy assistants, technicians, and pharmacists at Basildon Hospital.

As a key member of our technical services team, you'll play a vital role in the timely provision of aseptically dispensed products, including chemotherapy and intravenous additives. You'll ensure all products are prepared in line with strict operating procedures, maintaining the highest standards of safety and effectiveness.

In this role, you'll also have the chance to step up and supervise staff, managing the day‑to‑day running of the unit in the absence of the team leader--an excellent opportunity to develop your leadership skills.

  • A self‑motivated individual with strong communication skills and a desire to learn and grow.
  • A qualified Registered Pharmacy Technician, Production Technician, or someone currently undertaking the Science Medicine Technician qualification with aseptic experience.

Main duties of the job
  • Co‑ordinate the supply of Chemotherapy to the Chemotherapy day unit ensuring products are supplied in a timely manner.
  • Provide information to nurses and doctors when required on patient doses and treatments.
  • Take an active part in monthly team meetings to maintain practice
  • Take part in the GMP training rota providing a training session for staff within the aseptic unit.
  • Participate in the compounding of all aseptic preparations.
  • Complete worksheets, transcribing detailed information from chemocare prescriptions onto worksheets, carrying out of complex calculations.
  • Undertake transcription, calculation and reconciliation checks on manufacturing documents prior to the use of the document by any grade of staff.
  • Ensure that all readings and limits are within range and that the unit is maintained and fit for operational use, reporting any deviations to a senior member of staff.
  • Assisting unit managers with the maintenance of documentation systems including updating and making changes to SOP's and other associated documents.
  • Action any quality alerts identifying the route cause using different forms of route cause analysis tools.
  • Assist in the management of stock and consumables and in liaison with the procurement team to help identify any discrepancies and act upon these.
  • In absence of the unit manager or lead technician manage the day to day activities of the unit.
  • Assist in the training of junior staff.
