Overview

The asbestos management team forms part of the larger Asset & Facilities Management team working within Built Environment at the City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council. The primary focus of the asbestos management team is to ensure the authority maintains compliance with relevant asbestos health and safety legislation and accurately monitor and manage asbestos containing materials identified within our corporate portfolio of properties.

The asbestos management team is seeking candidates with a proven track record within the field of asbestos management. Candidates must be enthusiastic, good communicators and qualified asbestos surveyors with experience of undertaking asbestos surveys and managing asbestos across a variety of assets.

Role Description

We are looking for an asbestos surveyor to join our dedicated team in Asset & Facilities Management, Corporate Resources. The role will have responsibility for asbestos management across our varied portfolio of corporate buildings. Candidates must be organised, have an eye for detail, enthusiastic, possess strong written and verbal communicator skills and qualified (BOHS P402 certified or the RSPH equivalent qualifications) asbestos surveyors with a minimum experience of five years within the asbestos industry and a minimum two years qualified experience of undertaking asbestos surveys and managing asbestos across a variety of assets. The ability to work well independently, but have a strong team player attitude is essential for this role. This role is an opportunity to make a real difference in our vibrant and diverse city.

Main responsibilities of this role:

  • Carry out a variety of asbestos surveys including management surveys, refurbishment surveys, demolition surveys and reinspection surveys, including sampling and recording asbestos information.
Responsibilities
  • To carry out risk assessments of all identified asbestos and take appropriate action when required.
  • Be able to assess when and if air testing is required based on knowledge of asbestos fibre migration.
  • Produce and prepare accurate survey reports for all survey types.
  • To produce asbestos management plans for buildings to ensure they comply with HSE legislation.
  • Present the asbestos management plan to building custodians and carry out full training on their duties to enable them to comply with legislation.
  • Prepare estimates for asbestos removal works valued from £100.00 to £150,000.00.
  • Produce asbestos removal documents for the procurement of contractors.
  • Carry out surveys of potentially contaminated land.
  • Produce, and implement a strategy for dealing with land contaminated by asbestos.
  • Carry out final inspections after asbestos removal has taken place and produce a safe to reoccupy certificate.
  • To deputise for the senior asbestos officer in their absence.
  • Keep the asbestos database up to date.
  • Raise orders and process invoices.
