Job description
The Role

We are seeking a skilled Asbestos Operative to join our Voids team based in Birmingham. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the safe removal and management of asbestos‑containing materials in unoccupied properties, ensuring compliance with all health and safety regulations.

This is a permanent role and the core working hours are Monday to Friday 8am-4:30pm. Travel is required in the south Birmingham area.

The Customer

You will be part of one of Fortem's largest Social Housing contracts, Birmingham City Council. This is an expanding £50m Repairs & Maintenance, Capital Works and Retrofit contract and the largest social housing contract in Europe. We are responsible for over 22,500 properties in the Birmingham area including low, medium and a significant number of high‑rise blocks. This is a fast paced, focused and dedicated contract which we have been re‑awarded 3 times and we are very proud to be able to support this exceptional client.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include :

  • Removal of floor tiles
  • Scraping and encapsulation of textured coatings (e.g. Artex)
  • Removal of cement‑based sheets (e.g. old corrugated roofing, redundant gas meter shelves)
  • Drilling holes for cable access during rewires (with shadow vacuum in use)
  • Removal of ceramic floor tiles layered over vinyl floor tiles containing white asbestos
  • Removal of carpets adhered to chrysotile floor tiles
  • Removal of carpet grippers fixed to chrysotile floor tiles and making good using self‑levelling compound (or similar)
  • General labouring duties, as required, in line with business needs
